Thread: Has MSN changed?

With this chapter I lost a lot of love for MSN, although its been happening long before this chapter, it really struck me that MSN is no longer the ecchi comedy that I first started reading, any minute now I'm expect Negi to start powering up and for his hair to turn yellow. Even the art style has reflected this, just look at one of the very early chapters and compare how Negi looks with now. I know that the current arc is the main story, but I much preffer the adventures around the academy (what happened to defeating the dragon?).

^ come on don't be like that~ What about the festival arc? they were really serious during the last half of that one...and the Kyoto arc they were that way too. After all this seriousness is through things will be back to normal.

I think the art style was just an illusion of the really bad scanlations.
Or because Ken probably loaded off some of the art work to his assistants?

And the dragon was long resolved...

BUT, I get what you mean. I also am a bit disappointed at where this is going. Hopefully and likely, there will be a lot more to the arc than this.
P.S. Is that why the Negima section is so much more inactive now?

I have to agree with 98. I also would like a return to form. However, I am willing to ride this arc out.

I'm also willing to ride this arc out, but the manga turning into an angst fest and an excuse to show fighting and violence is the reason why I have stopped reading other mangas before. I originally picked up this series because I like the comedy and comic ecchiness of Love Hina and found MSN to be similar.

I did realize that Negima has changed.

^ that might be the reason he goes out looking for material every 2 chapters or so now. But I guess you guys are right. One I got over my "Negi V.S Fate! Squeee!" thing I looked back at previous chapters and compared them to the newest chapters. The quality of the art is different.

Since the gate incident ocurred I knew the story would go in this direction, I'm not dissapointed because the fights are awsome in this manga and that's half the reason I read it. I agree that the story feels a bit unbalanced right now as well. But from what I have read so far, Akamatsu is a good writer. Since he writes for an older audience, unlike other mangaka, it has to be hard. /ramble

Well this is the MW arc so any arc close to MW one is bound to be filled with action.

Pros during the MW arc

-we get to see negi lose an arm
-we get to see negi die
-we get to see negi impaled by a spear and nearly die, +lots of blood
-we get to see chisame shocked expression as blood sprayed on her face
-racan the pervert
-good chachamaru/negi moments
-build up of ako's romance
-first fight between negi and fate team was something too enjoy
-negi is more psychologically mature

Cons

-Many groups could have been developed individually when they were teleported from the gate port, and thus have some form of personal growth

-Asuna/KK group in particular could have had a neat adventure on their own

-Makie/Yuuna needs to suffer more, does ken have a problem with multiple plot lines?

-far too much focus on Negi training, a bit too much Negi focus throughout the arc.

-their wasn't enough break between the fights for a comfortable breather, to enjoy what the other groups are up to. I'm sure this reason would cause some ppl to get tired of the fighting.

Future potential?

Well since its the MW arc you can't skip their would be alot of fights, and potential personal growth for some ppl, it really depends on how ken decides to handle this.

Im pretty sure the guy isn't used to doing this, cause he failed to take advantage of the forced teleportation for developing the characters individually, and having some fun with them.I mean he' definitely used to the love,comedy Mangas. But he is still new to the major shounen/adventure plot lines isn't he?

But keep in mind after this arc, thier would be potential for Makie,Yuuna,Akira and natsumi. I mean how would they react or think about Negi, after learning of magic?, and what will occur in the future?

Also thier still chances of fun times, when major issues are dealt with in the MW arc, also potential on what happened to anya.

plot wise their still much to be optimistic about.

Negima is an unique series from the start. A ten-year-old male teacher who is a young Mage and his class forms the basis of the series. There are some of Ken's ideals which I don't like. One ideal which I didn't like was Negi and the Al Alba becoming fugitves on the Magic World. I thought that the Magic World arc included Wales. The fugitive ideal was a suprise twist. It turn out that Fate's and his allies's decision to frame Al Alba was a major mistake.

Another which I did not much like is Ken not disclosing what has been happening to Takamichi, Mana, and Anya. All Ken had to do was to focus a few pages to explain what has happen to those three.

I have thought that Negima was a Harry Potter parody. The series was not a Harry Potter parody, but an unique series from the start.

I already knew that this arc was gonna be filled with action the moment Fate blasted them at that airport...

so yeah... I'm willing to read this one until it's finished..
