Not only did negi get eva's maga obscuria, but he also got more training from rakan afterwards. Negi should now be at least 2x to 3x stronger than he was when they first entered the magical world.

@ Atrum-san's post above: If one needs to be at least 3/4 of fate's strength in order to do bounty hunter stuff, does that mean Asuna, Setsuna, and Kaede are at that strength level now or higher?

Anyway, you're underestimating Fate. Fate is a survivor of the war, which was about 20 years ago. (Also to get this point across, he's probably older than what his appearance shows, like Albiereo and Asuna). So he probably had alot more training than Negi, which is why you're probably underestimating him. Negi would really have to do some intense training to catch up to Fate.

Negi : Intense training plus tons of exp = I finally caught up to Fate... plus the fact that he's got the time machine of Evangeline (okay, not a time machine.. just a resort which somehow magically alters time and shizz)

I wasn't underestimating Fate in my post, I just think people are selling negi a bit too short. I still don't think Negi can take a serious Fate yet, even with the powerup on his side. Here's how I think it'll go:

Negi and Fate fight evenly--> Negi uses Maga obscuria and starts doing some damage to fate--> Fate gets serious--> Negi gets royally pwned--> Negi, badly wounded, get's his little behind saved by Takamichi(or someone like that) at the last second--> Fate retreats again, leaving them with some morbid information.

..well something like that.

Sorry, maybe I was kinda harsh.

It's just kinda... Weaboo-ish.

Anyway, even with the resort, I'd say it'd take atleast two years to catch up to Fate. I mean in a fight, he might get a lucky stab, but that doesn't determine his experience/strength level. Also Negi just started combat magic a little over six months ago. His experience increased dramatically since then, but it'll start to slow down a bit.

calling someone -san in real life isn't actually harsh.. it's just... creepy if you apply it in the internet/forums or something...

true... Takamichi did kinda mention that "Give him (Negi) a year and he might surpass me." especially in using that resort since Evangeline mentions that Death Glasses guy used that for a year to master Kanka or something like that...

I meant I was too harsh and I think that Takahata was being too modest. I say three years give or take.
