Interestingly on a side note, "degozaru" was most famously used by Kenshin in Rorouni Kenshin. Yeah, i think it's basically an old fashioned form of speech (i think it's meant to be more formal and 'humble' or something) which seems to be mainly used by samurais. In Kenshin it was translated basically how suzaku1 described it above!
