In Ch. 131, Takahata told Al that he had no right to be love. Takahata may have love a woman in the past. He seems to sound that he was involved in a love triangle. Ken did focus on the effects of occasional love triangle in Volume 14. At first, I think that Ken was joking around with love triangles. Love triangles can be very messy.
If Takahata had love a woman who was in love with another man, the woman whom he was love with would likely be Negi's mother. Takahata's love for Negi's mother would be a serious matter. Aware of the love which Negi's mother had for Nagi, Takahata could have simply given up on Negi's mother and respected her love for Nagi. Takahata could still be in love with Negi's mother.
Takahata could be referring to another woman. Al told Takahata that if he did not drop Asuna, he could have married up. Oddly, Al is reffeing to Asuna's likely status as a princess. Sometime in the past, a woman whom Takahata had love may have done something to him. Like using him for a particular reason.
If Takahata had found himself in a love trangle with his friend Nagi and Negi's mother, he will likely had recover from the triangle to an extent. It is likley that something happen between Takahata and another woman. Something which cause Takahata to think that he has not right to be love.
