Negi framing himself?
This is simple speculation. We do know that Negi can travel through time with the aid of a magical time travel piece like the Cassipeia . The Cassiepeia can only work when there is a lot of magic around. Since Negi is in the Magic World, he is able to use the Cassipiea to travel back in time. Unfortunately, Negi's Cassipeia is broken. If Negi brought the Cassipeia as a result of habit, he may be able to find a watch maker to fix it for him.
If Negi is able to travel back in time, his mission will be focus on limiting the damage of the Magic Portal when Fate and his comrades attack the magic portal. Fate was able to frame Negi and the White Wing for damaging the Magic Portal. The Magic World thinks that Negi and the White Wing were responsible for damaging the Magic Portal. The TV news report show a picture of Negi trying to destroy the Magic Portal.
What if the false picture of Negi damaging the Magic Portal was a result of Negi returning to the past in order to limit the damage done to the Magic Portal. Negi will have frame himself and the others.
I wrote this thread as a result of discovering Mana's and Takahata's arrival into the magic world. Both Mana and Takahata were sent by the Mahora Academy on a seperate mission. Takahata will quickly conclude that Negi was frame. All Takahata can do is to contact someone whom he knows very well in the Magic World. The only member of the Crimson Wing who may be living in the Magic World is the one who I call The Blonde Hair Giant.
I am predicting that Negi will have to travel back to the past, in order to help to clear his own name as well as the others. Negi can't stop Fate's attack on the Magic Portal, but he may be able to minimalize the damage on the Magic Portal cause by Fate. Therefore allowing the Magic Portal staff to fix the portal in time.
Or it could be a fake video?
Unlikely. The time machine was a combination of future technology and magic, so I'm fairly certain there isn't a person in the magic world that could even hope to understand it. It is probably just a fake video that Fate used to cover his tracks.

i doubt it; tiime travel is a really iffy/complicated thing, i don't think akamatsu will throw us another cassie-based arc. besides, the video looked like he was breaking the portals - i don't see how that could be interpreted as limiting the damage
Well, we know the supposed limit was 24 hours. They did manage to go back a week but do you remember how difficult that was? Our current Negi would also be the Negi that would have to go back in time sometime in the near future, considering the fact that he is a fugitive and in the middle of nowhere with no means of finding someone to fix Cassiopeia I don't see how he could possibly do that. He kind of has bigger fish to fry.
They probably created it afterwards... plus I wouldn't be surprised if the media in the magic world needed someone to blame.
I think the time travel is unlikely but not totally out of the question... although I don't know if I would like them resorting to time travel all the time now.
You're taking this way to seriously. We have Photoshop they probably have Magically Enhanced Video Shop or something. I'm sticking with what I stated earlier.
They sure have illusion magic. A very little girl could recreate Takahata-sensei indistinguishable from real one. So an expert illusionist can create anything he wants, and have somebody record it. So if Megalo-whatever government wanted to make such a video, it'd be a piece of cake.
But if Fate made such an illusion for surveillance cameras to put the authorities off tracks, then it's a very nice feat of illusion. Given the fact Fate wasn't expecting Negi, he couldn't have prepared it in advance, and had to use illusion while fighting Negi at the same time.
there is no way because to even use the watch you had to be near the world tree and use some world tree magic. although it is nice to see someone thinking outside of the box, but maybe thats a little bit too far out of the box. Lets stay within throwing distance of the box shall we?
No, I believe it's not just the world tree, but anywhere that's more or less saturated with magic. The Tree is just a really large mundane-world site for magic. It probably sucks out magic from or has a connection to the magic world. But I do agree with you on how it's a little out there. This theory has been BUSTED /mythbusters reference.

The magic world isn't filled with magic, it's filled with magic-users, right?
So even if you're in a magic world, you still have to find a place magical enough for time travelling. And wait for like 20 years for it to activate. By that time, Negi will have little motivation to go into the past, unless something apocalyptic happened.
