My first theory.

This is my theory. Negi is Nagi.

This is going to go in depth on why I think Negi is Nagi. First of all the power level for Negi is probably the most ridiculously thing I have ever herd. People always say how much potential he has. So meaning that not really a kid has a power, but the power of an adult who knows a lot. A good point to prove is who is Negi's mother? Some how there is no information on who Negi's mother is. There is no possible way if you take the Aging pills you can look exactly like your father (This was irrelevant). Nagi said that Negi should stop trying to be like him so that points to "Just be your self since, I am you" So Basically Negi is basically achieving something that Nagi really wasn't. (Still cloudy of this meaning. Maybe no meaning at all.)

This is what I am thinking. Some time back then Nagi and his gang were in a butt raping pinch. Leading to the death of takamichi's teacher and splitting up the group. Now Albireo Imma is trapped correct? And now comes out at festivals. So Nagi; seeing how he likes to be a trickster. (Refer to Volume 3 of Negima when Negi peeps in to Evangeline's dream. The garlic and leek trap he had made in the beach.) He made choice to wipe his memory and take the form of a child (So he could trick the people who intended to kill him). The only flaw to this is where the hell is the story to the gap between when Nagi turned in to Negi (Time Wise)? And another reason to this is Asuna is a princeces, so that would mean that she would always get targeted correct? Referring to the butt raping pinch that Nagi and His gang were in. (That caused every one to split up, and the death of takamichi's teacher.) With Takamichi watching over her. (NOT a coincidence) Untill Negi came Takamichi was not her teacher anymore. (Not knowing it would be Nagi, also not a coincidence.) So that would mean either Nagi got hurt REALLY bad, and took disguise. Or he is in disguise, so when a great danger comes towards Asuna's way Negi a.k.a Nagi would save her.

Some how I think Fate is also in the same situation with Negi.

The main flaw of this theory
-The Snowy Night 6 years ago.
-When Negi graduated from his magic academy.
-Negi being born.
-The staff Negi got from Nagi.

And the funny thing is we really dont know much about Nagi's Birth do we? So for all we can know he could be Japanese.

This theory has alot of holes, the most obvious one is Negi met Nagi 6 years ago. They both have hella different personalities. They both are on completely different levels, thus refuting the argument of Nagi's diguise since Negi-Nagi would have kicked Fate's arse. Nagi is a human, not a vampire/immortal, thus ages with appearance. Therefore time travel not viable since Negi would need to wait another 22 years to go back in time.
Negi has childhood memories (and Anya supports them), thus it refutes the arguement of Nagi erasing his own memories to become Negi. Plus I dun like this theory.

I'll put it in point form, so it's easier to read (and shorter to write):

1. The pactio cards. I'm using a uni com now, so I can't confirm. But remember when Albiero mentioned that pactio cards can be 'alive' or 'dead'? Live cards is like the ones negi and his comrades have, and that includes Al's card as well. Now, I can't reall remember exactly, but I think Mana's card is 'dead'. So basically it doesn't have anything to do with who the contract is made, rather if the person who made the contract is still alive or not. Someone please check again with that chapter and Mana's chapter (somewhere in the school festival) and confirm this.

2. The staff could very well have been a 'looped' object. It loops infinitely in time (if such things are possible).

3. The snowy night is pretty much consistent - Nagi meets himself.

I think the main flaw here lies in his past. He is the brightest student in his magic school, while Nagi can't even read spells and thus was kicked out of school.

Appearance doesn't really justify it. The real Nagi hasn't even met with present-day Negi yet. The one Negi met at the school festival was just Al's recreation of Nagi.

And just for the lol, maybe Anya is Negi's mom XD
And yeah, I'm pretty much against this theory.

Fate is Negi's second uncle who came back to rape Negi.

If Nagi was Negi, then Evangeline, Alberio, Takamichi, and Eishun would have noticed the similarities. Besides their personalities are way different and their abilities and advancement in fighting and magic.

It may sound corny but that is what Nagi probably wanted. >_>

Negi is definately the son of Nagi Springfield. He does like his father when he is one of his older forms. One of the most noticable differences between Negi and his father Nagi is the fact that Negi is wearing eyeglasses. Negi seems to be farsighted.

It is acceptable that Negi will stop wearing eyeglsses when he is older. When Negi was in each of his older states, he was wearing no eyeglasses. He is either likely wearing contact lenses or his eyesight improve to a point where he doesn't have to wear eyeglasses most of the time.

Ken has given a lot of information on Nagi by bits and pieces during the series. I can agreed that Negi and his father Nagi do have one thing in common. They have a strong sense of devotion to being Magi and to their friends. Negi's own mother did love his father despite the fact that Nagi can be a jerk on occasion.

mmmm i dont agreed with your theorie coz ot of things

1 . mana card is a dead card that means , the seal and another things has disappear alrdy , so if mana card would be alive she could use the powers of the card

2 . nagi is diferent to negi , one reason is nagi need to read a book with all his spells but negi no , negi have in his memory his spells , anothe thing is how negi couldnt recognize eva if he was the one who seal her and saver her LOL ¡¡ ,

now , the part i agree with you is when he saves the litle negi , the negi or nagi who fight that time dont need a book and was very powerfull, and says , looks im late , maybe is the only time that negi adult meets litle negi

ah yeah .. eva dont have a pactio card .. so from where is that card ?

^ To add to 2. Nagi also said he dropped out of Magic school, where Negi didn't.
