@Ivanov: Part of the ability of Ensis Exorcizans is to counter magic. It's probably not as potent as Asuna's natural cancel, but it's still there. At the same time, it COULD just be an extention of Asuna's power and thus be useless in Negi's hands, but he should have been able to find that kind of thing out during his hyperbolic-time-chamber training.

@death_incarnate: His isn't really the best considering he can only really use Konoka's, Setsuna's, Asuna's(?), and maybe Nodoka's (as Heartlessfang listed), but her's would require those two artifacts she went out of her way to find.

lol I wonder though if Ensis Exoricanz will be of use against Rakan.. magic canceling won't bother a guy who is not a mage much.. even Nodoka's artifact probably won't have much of an effect as Rakan is the type of guy who doesn't think about his next move but acts on instincts and reaction..

Wouldn't he be able to negate Jack's magic-based artifact and force him to fight hand-to-hand? And Kotarou would have to handle both Rakan AND Kagetarou while Negi healed himself, don't see much chance in that.

One way for Negi to defeat Rakan is to wear his opponent down. Negi use of his pactio card is a tool to help him in his battle with Rakan. Since Rakan has brought his sword, he is likely will use it. So, it makes sense for Negi to use a copy of Asuna's sword.

Rakan's and Negi's fight is a typical Master vs. Student battle. Kagetario and Kotario are going to have a good fight, too. Kagetario had proven himself to be a good fighter. Rakan is still strong fighter who will not to be easily worn down. Rakan's strength is his experience as a fighter. Negi's major strength is his youth.

In a way, Rakan is proven to have two reasons for entering the tournament. One of his reasons is to make sure that his student Negi doesn't have an easy fight at the finals. Rakan wants Negi/Nagi to work for his victory.

Doesn't make sense. Rakan's Thousand Blades become more spear-like than they do swordly(fake word ftw). He throws the shit and breaks more shit. If anything, Negi would need a Naginata. No way Negi's wearing him down. Jack hasn't aged like Eishun, whose skills have wayyy degraded since his youth (god 10 years kicked his ass).

... Only reason I can think of is to test the son of his eternal rival, Nagi. He's too lazy to want to find and fight Fate himself, I'd say, so training Negi is the next best thing (reason 2?)

....Rakan is the very definition of a broken character, so I wouldn't think age would really affect him either. Heck, do we even know how old the guy is? I was thinking because of his complexion that he was like the Hellas princess. The rules of aging don't apply to him.....

Hmm.. I think a combo of Konoka's artifact + Kaede's artifact should be quite useful, as he'll be able to heal himself or even Kotaruo without much trouble, and also I'm thinking that Kaede's artifact alone could be very helpful.. for example he can conceal himself in it and very leisurely use incantations for some delayed spells..

Eva wins because she's a level 15000 high daylight walker (my personal random estimation ).. that ancient dragon Rakan fought to a standstill will probably be sneezed off by Eva..
