Thread: New moderator.

Hey guys, your new moderator speaking. Just wanted to say hi and ask a few questions.

Hello
First of all, hi, I've just been made the new mod in this section (since Hellcreator has pretty much left the site and i don't think Jyuu is active in this section).

I'm pretty laid back and easy going, for the most part I'm happy to let you get on with things. For example if you double post I'll just merge the posts and send you a PM about it, stuff like that is not worth punishing unless its done repeatedly.
If I do make a section specific rule, I'll make it pretty clear so it should be easy to understand (example here). However, if you break a rule that I set, I will come down on you like a ton of bricks, if I create a section rule there will be a good reason behind it.

Questions
With that out the way, i have a few questions.
First of all, does anyone have any suggestions they'd like to make about how they'd like to change the section, or should any stickies be created?
Also, what are the users of this section like, are there any trouble makers? Is there anything else i should know about this section?

Changes
I have one or two changes that I plan to make, the first one is to get rid of the chapter announcements thread, in its place I intend to do what is done in the Airgear section and create a RAW discussion thread for discussing unscanlated chapters (I'll probably just rename the current thread, so you won't lose any posts).
For scanlated chapters, I would prefer that a new thread is created for each released chapter.

This way those who don't read the RAWs won't have things spoiled for them, and there will be a whole thread dedicated to discussing each chapter (one thing I dislike about release announcement threads is the fact that its very hard to distinguish which chapter is being discussed. I also find it easier to mod the individual threads and its also easier for people looking for download links).

The second thing I want to do is again the same as I have done in the Airgear section, and that is to create an announcement at the top of the page with a list of important links (related to MSN!) to places like information sites, download sites, streaming media sites, etc....
I won't do this just yet, so don't start sending me links just yet (I'll let you know when its OK to PM me links).

As always, if you have a problem (either inside or outside this section), I can be contacted by PM or email. I have it set so that a copy of every PM I receive is sent to my email, so I will read it and I will get round to it as soon as possible.

First off all i think we should keep the Chapter Announcement thread and make a separate New Raw Discussions since pretty much all new raws get scanlated by F-O right away and Chapter Announcement Thread has a Rule for Post "links" only which in most case, is not followed by some members... i think we just need to tighten on that point :P though thats just me suggesting and about the trouble makers on this section... theres pretty much no one even though we don't have an active Mod for a couple of months we've been behaving oh and the spoiler thing is a good idea xD

Oh, I didn't realise that the chapter thread was only for posting links (it seems we have a few naughty members, lol).
You say that chapters are scanlated pretty much straight away. Roughly how long does it take from raw release to scanlated release?

If its not long then another option available is to change the announcment thread to raw announcements (for posting links to raws).
The thing is, I would much like to have seperate threads for scanlated chapters (I find that download links are usually posted in the first few posts anyway). My main objective is to move away from having all links in one link only thread, because the problem that creates is people will want to discuss in that thread, as we've seen in the current thread (even if you stop it, it will start again at some point).
Also, a centralised thread I find, tends to discourage discussion, since its not always clear what people are talking about and its hard to hold a conversation about one chapter when someone starts up a conversation about another in the same thread.

Hey there man! Its about time we got a new moderator, thanks! Is there anyway we could make like a whold thread based on chapters so we can discuss chapter releases and links, but also discuss the chapters, I tried to create one but it dies down alot. Like a sticky thread.

Well as I've said, I would like it if a new thread was created for each chapter (links would be posted in their respective threads, so that would solve the problem of discussion and links being in separate threads). But again as I've said I don't like the idea of everything (i.e. all chapters, links and spoilers) being in just one thread, dividing it up per chapter just seems more logical to me (easier for reference, finding links to specific chapters, only having one discussion in the thread at one time and most importantly, easier to moderate).

But yes, I can see why you would want links and discussion together, having them separate just confuses people more and may even discourage discussion.

Just to try and make it clearer, the way I would like it is if there was one thread for RAW releases, where every time a raw chapter is released, people could post links and discuss the chapter. This way people who don't read the RAWs wont have the story spoilt (if there was just one centralised thread, it couldn't be helped if someone went into the thread to talk about something else, but ended up reading a spoiler).
When the chapter is scanlated, it gets its own thread and people who don't read the RAWs will then be able to download and discuss it (if people want I can even move the raw discussion posts into that new thread so that people can continue discussing it all in one thread).

So basically, it'd be one RAW thread and a thread for each individual chapter, all links would be in their respective threads.

Ah I see, that certainly makes sense but most of the other "post" in the chapter announcement thread are complaining and asking for new releases xD
the new chapters pretty much get scanlated after 5-10 hours after Raw release.. and the New Thread every chapter is a good Idea too.
since we will make a new thread per release and that works as the discussion thread for the new release, i think that work, since most of the Discussion and other threads made here just become inactive right away xD.

mm, having a separate thread for all chapter announcements worked pretty well at AQS. then again, separate thread for each chapter - with the link for the chapter as the first post - works well for the Naruto and Bleach section. i'm fine with either option

it's just that right now, the chapter announcement thread gets spammed up by people asking when the next release is, and it'd be nice for that to change

If chappters are scanlated 5-10 hours after raw release, then there is not much point in having a RAW thread at all, unless people really want to talk about RAWs (the reason we have a RAW thread in AG section is because the RAWs are further ahead than the scanlations, but it seems its not needed here).

As for people complaining about release speeds, I frown upon doing that. Unless they are scanlating it themselves, they have no right to complain about speeds. I consider complaining about speeds as a big taboo and I'm more than happy to hand out infractions (and even bans) to people who complain.

Yea F-O scans are fast, but i think he said he might not do something this week
