Thread: Negi's mother...

Alright he's so obsessed and determined to fin hiis father, but what about his mother. There is like no information on his mother at all in the anime or the manga. Does he not care about his mother. Though in the flashbacks we never saw his mother. Though he never talks about her too. Maybe there is a possiblity that she is dead, REALLY dead, like there is evidence, and he moved on from that. Thouh he seems to be so focused on his father, he seems to show no affection at all for his mother. Saying I'll do anything to find my father so my life will be back to normal. He doesn't say anything about his momma. WHAT HAPPENED TO A MATERNAL RELATIONSHIP?

negi's mother probably is dead. his maternal relationship is probably with his sister. i mean he does sleep with her so his actual relationship with his sister is a sister/mother one.

His mother is probably not dead, although I don't know why he has no interest in her. A clue that she's not dead is in the flashback with Asuna entering his memory, Stan told Negi that his father is dead. At that point in time Negi did not understand the meaning of "dead" and even had Anya making fun of him because of that.

If Negi's mother was dead, he probably would have experienced what "death" means, unless his mother died really early on. In which case, he would have asked about "death" early on as well, which from his memories he did not...

My guess is that Nagi is with Negi's mother right now. Probably when he asked where is mother was, he was told that his mother is with Nagi. Then the next question is where is Nagi, and they told him that Nagi is called the Thousand Master yada yada and dead, and thus his obsession is to find his father because finding his father would also find him his mother.

That is a very good theory! I never even thought of it that way

I think that the issue with negi's mother is a very interesting loose end, one that I don't think Akamatsu took into account. I hope that he explains that, but I think that the moment's passed it's due.

It's something that a lot of people try to explain, (maybe it's asuna, maybe it's eva), and so far, it all seems far-fetched. Negi's mother is probably a character we haven't come across, or something that Nagi would explain when Negi finally meets him.

or it could really be his sister but she just doesn't want to be called ba-chan or something to sound old... you have to agree there are some characters like that... plus negi's sleeping habit is just weird... even kisses girls in his sleep i mean i think ( personal opinion ) an ordinary sister wont like that at all... but i'm just ranting non sense and the top theory is more likely...

Nekane isn't Negi's sister; she's his cousin but their relationship is one of brother-sister. Even if Nekane turns out to be Negi's mother, you'll have to wonder why Negi never asked about his mother in his flashbacks and if he did what kind of answer he had gotten from the people around him.

My guess is since Nekane has yellow hair, Nekane might be on Negi's mother's side of the family rather than Nagi's side of the family (blonde hair being a recessive genotype but I don't think Akamatsu cares that much for genetics). But that's just a speculation.

well, i'm saying that she is his sister until stated otherwise because it really doesn't specify that she really is his sister or cousin. also, don't put genetics in manga, negi has red and brown hair. and zmon bachan can either mean grandma or aunt, it is okaasan that is for mother.

Nekane ist most likely not Negi's sister:
She must be at least 10 years older than Negi (more like 15), so when she was born Nagi was...15 (or even just 10)? (20 years ago during the Great Mage War)
I don't think Nagi started that early (and during that war..plus he needed time to gather his troops too...)

I concur that Nekane is likely not Negi's sister or mother for one reason: Nekane is neither obsessed about finding Nagi nor does she seem to be very interested at all. If she believes Nagi to be dead, then she would discourage Negi, as would a disheartened widow or a sibling. If she believes Nagi to be alive, then she would whole heartedly encourage Negi to find Nagi... something more than just a pat on the back.

Such a character is missing from Nekane in Negi's flashback around Volume 8 in Eva's resort. She's neither encouraging or discouraging Negi's belief on the state of Nagi, but simply interested in the wellbeing of Negi. If she indeed was Negi's sister or mother, she would actually have told Negi what she believes to have happened to Nagi. And depending on the real relationship Negi have with Nekane, profoundly affect his decision and determination to find his father. Conversely if Nekane is Negi's sister or mother, then Negi's meeting with his father would profoundly affect Nekane's belief on what happened to Nagi, which seems to be either purposefully omitted or simply lacking.
