well, it does look like she can since she's combining her magic with physical moves such as punches and kicks. it looks like she's a magic swordsman (fighter) like negi.
Back at the Magic School, Anya and Negi were training together... not to mention even paired together during the test. Most of the spells and the opening spells used by both of them are quite the same. Anyway, she's pretty cute. I think she has deep down feelings for Negi though she doesn't really says it out loud to him.
From what I've heard about her, she will play a major role on the later chapters (The part where Negi and this Negima group visiting Wales)... she's the one who releases the Star Devil that possess each individual. There are some characters that will help Negi to solve this problem... from what I've heard, Negi had to do Pactio with Evangeline.
We'll see what might happen in the later chapters, shall we?
Where did you hear about that? Wasn't the star devil from the anime?
it probably was. and it is highly unlikely that it will happen. i'm thinking of a major role not from the anime. and it is obvious that she likes him. i mean she helped him sneak in the library when they were younger, came to get him, and wants him away from his class just because their girls.
Like when Konoka said it would be hard for her to calm down, and when negi "glomped" onto her

Negi's and Anya's exchange at the end of the chapter especially drives home this point. Looking back, Nekane lost her parents in that night as well, but perhaps unlike Negi she managed to move on from that loss. It is likely that Anya lost her kins as well that night (Volume 8 Chapter 65 Anya appears in Negi's village with Nekane when Nekane is on school break. Later Anya goes back to school with Nekane when break is ending. We can infer that Anya and Negi grew up in the same village, therefore she must have some family in that village if at all.)
Another role Anya plays is to showcase Negi's growth. Following the series it is obvious that Negi has grown stronger and matured, but throughout class 3-A girls will remind us that he's only 10 years old and still only a child (from their perspective). Anya is a benchmark to what Negi would have been if he had continued to grow normally as oppose to all the things he had gone through - both in power and in maturity.
Negi has struggled with the reasons for growing stronger and fighting (Wilhelm mini-arc), his purpose for looking for his father, and his justifications for all that. To Negi, he understands that it's no longer just good vs evil and he accepts that his search for his father is fundamental to him. But Anya is probably still stuck at the good vs evil part, and is just looking for closure for that snowy night.
At the end of it all, I think Anya would be a contender to Asuna as Negi's confidant. So far, Negi has been looking towards Asuna for reassurances (for example before he tells the group anything he would tell Asuna first). The introduction of Anya might change that.
hmmm..... i guess your right about being a contender to Asuna as Negi's confidant (or partner?) depending on what happens in the following chapter we'll see who's more suited; i'm personaly routing for Asuna; Anya is just annoying to me.
Which is weird because if you compare thier personalities (from the begining of the book) they are quite similar.... except in experiance and power in recent events which changed Asuna. But if Anya does something to redeem herself than i guess i can see later to acepting her..... just depends.
If this follows suit (in the aurthors other book) i doubt Anya will end up as his partner, just a friendly relationship.
I found the chapter 182 in english by F-O, i posted it.
Anya is so likee naru in this chapter..
