I think i figured out what chao's trying to save.... she's trying to safe magic..... any way, it's just my 2 cents.

hmm, are you saying that Chao's trying to save magic cause in the future science develops in such a way that they soon stop practicing and forget about the existance of magic? if so then i doubt it. imo its probably some war that causes many casualties n destruction that could have been avoided or fixed with magic... heh, its worth a shot

Not really...... but the fact that chao know the incantation of high lvl spells but don't have any magical powers led me to belive that the magic some how...... disspeared. What i think is some thing big happend and some how spent all the magical powers or something....... and one of negi's decedents give his/her life in the process.

if that is true! why hide the true of her plans to negi is not something that evil...

She did offer negi the choice to join her........ any way, she want him to chose by him self..... without any stirngs attached.

I beg to differ. She never revealed her motivations for her actions so she mustn't have thought that simply telling him could suade him over to her side. Instead she choosed to try to unconditionally bind him to her cause before she would let him know. She simply offered her explanation for Negi's subservience knowing well that no one would simply give himself for a cause he knows nothing about. Plus she has done little to inspire any faith from Negi, but instilled enough doubt to hamper his resistence to her terrorism.

I also think it must be something along the lines of saving magic, or rather, magicians. Think about it: Chao comes back to the past with a lot of technology that can fight magical users like all the tanks. . . and she's taking it easy on them. If she was aiming to kill they would be owned in seconds. So, in the future there is technology powerful enough to fight mages, and since the existence of magic has been a secret all along, when people finally find out there's a witch hunt and mages are basically exterminated. That's why revealing magic to the public would be beneficial to her in the future.

As for why she doesn't just come out and reveal her plan, she probably thinks it's easier to do things forcibly than trying to convince people (I mean, nobody believed Negi when he was telling everybody about time travel). And the mages already want to erase her memories anyway. Just my two cents.

The magic world can't imagine any science on the level that Chao brings with her. They had enough trouble believing Negi with the timeturner... heh, seems like Rowling's language is becoming standard. Anyway, it'd be too much fuss to convince them; convince one, and the next one needs convincing. And even if you convince the leaders of the magic world, the people may not be convinced.

Force is the best way for causing abrupt change. Bismarck's a good historical example.

Weimaro-kun seems correct. Chao is quite smart, after all.

Preserving magic's a high possibility on my list. Any other ideas?

I think there was a mention that Chao's motivation is personal rather than something larger.

i was thinking that in the future, magic deteriorates *somehow* - disease, naturally fades out, too much intermixing with normal humans, etc

she really wanted to use magic, so she came back to the past to reveal that magic exists, so that technological fixes would be able to help preserve magic
