I think that Chao 'planted' the time watch device on Negi to manipulate the time inside vampire Eve's mini sanctuary thus causing the events to unfold in ch.138. Its not out of kindness that Negi got his time saver or should I say a cunningly disguised trap. She had planned this the whole time. Thats so evil. I hope to see some emotional scarring and retribution from Negi on his so called 'descendant' soon.

I agree with you, I'm greatly displeased by the turn of events and Negi's personality (whimpy or hesistant) is not very promising, when it comes to solving this case...
