Nagi most probably left to protect something important which might cost him his life. MIGHT. I wonder what really happened to Albireo Ima and Gatou in the first place. Also, in the photo of Nagi's team in Volume 6, I think the little boy is someone we know. Or maybe it's just me... Nagi probably became the Thousand Master cuz his pactio card's number is 'M'. I could be wrong, of course.

Maybe he's stalking Negi...to know more of his abilities?

if everyone remembers the part that Nagi came to save Negi when he was alil kid. There was a part that the leader of those monsters said to Nagi that, "with such a strength who is the real Demon...", from that point I already think that, Nagi is something more scarier than those Demons... he can definitely be the last BIG BOSS. :P
