Thread: Apologies, but...any suggestions?

Hey, well...as you can probably tell I am new to the site, and as much as I hate asking for a suggestion as my first post, I'm doin' it anyway. So... I was wondering if anyone knew a manga/anime with the following.

Slice of life/School life + action (or something of the like) I enjoy action and such, but too much at...well, its not necessarily bad but I just enjoy a change of pace in the reading and such.
Oh...and if there are some heart shattering moments, that'd be nice too (sounds...odd) Wouldn't mind watching/reading something that would make me cry...hell that means the characters must be really well made. But, anyway before I ramble and bore the nice people who are taking time out of their day to read/respond I'll cut this where it is.

Wow, it's been quite a while since anyone has asked for recommendations.

Well, off the top of my head, most of the 'delinquent' sub-genre would suit you. Try some of the following:

Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO): 200 chapters, complete. Shounen school life, action, comedy, ecchi. Eikichi Onizuka, formerly the leader of a biker gang, has now become an adult, and is trying to decide what to do with his life. Due to a series of circumstances, he decides to become a high school teacher, but his rough ways and disrespect of authority often causes difficulty with the higher-ups. Not to mention that he's been put in charge of the worst class in school, with the most troublesome kids, and he has to slowly sort out their problems one by one... very often by doing things only a former delinquent would be crazy enough to dare.

Yankee-kun to Megane-chan: 156 chapters, ongoing. Shounen, slice-of-life, comedy, action. Shinagawa Daichi is a delinquent yankee, who is being constantly pestered by Adachi Hana, his class rep, to get involved in school activities and join in with the rest of the class. What he soon realises is that Adachi was actually a former delinquent herself, and much stronger than him, but whose only goal in life is to be a respectable, well-loved upright student. Unfortunately, this goal leads her to do some crazy things sometimes, and somehow Shinagawa keeps on getting sucked into taking care of the messes and crazy situations she makes.

Also, depending on your taste for ecchi, you could try

Change 123: 60 chapters, complete. Shounen school life, action, romance, ecchi (frontal nudity). Tells the story of Kosukegawa, a high school boy who believes in heroism and doing the right thing, even though he's weak. One day, he meets Gettou Motoko, an average high school girl with a difficult problem - she has split personality disorder, caused by a traumatic upbringing under three fathers who were all martial arts masters. As a result, sudden shocks will cause her to change into one of three other personalities - each highly skilled in a type of combat. Slowly, Kosukegawa falls in love with Motoko and her three personalities, and tries to find a cure for her situation.

Other school-life action series include: Gokusen, The Breaker, Angel Densetsu, Mx0, Ranma 1/2 and Hot Blooded Woman.

If you want slice-of-life and action, but not set in school, you can try some of the following:

Eat-Man: Follows the adventures of Bolt Crank, the World's Greatest Explorer. In a post-apocalyptic sci-fi world, Explorers are combination bounty hunters and mercenaries for hire. Bolt Crank has a special power of being able to eat anything and have it re-form from any part of his body. (eg. eating the parts for a machine gun, then protruding the completed gun out into his hand) Each chapter tracks an adventure of his, often with a twist at the end, and several small story arcs in later volumes.

Gunsmith Cats: Follows the adventures of Rally Vincent and Minnie-May Hopkins, two young female bounty hunters in Chicago who own a gun shop and hunt criminals in their spare time. Rally is an expert marksman, and Minnie-May likes things that go BOOM. Often told in a series of small story arcs over several chapters.
