Thread: Tokyo manga/anime ecchi ban

To sum up, the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly just approved a government bill that would make it illegal to own, create or sell "manga, anime, and other images (except for real-life photography)" that "unjustifiably glorify or exaggerate" certain sexual or pseudo sexual acts. Voluntary compliance starts in April 2011, and the law is expected to go into full force by July 2011.

From what I gather, this directly targets otaku culture, particular loli, yaoi/yuri, rape and ecchi manga/anime... plus there could be spillover effects onto excessive violence, fanservice and other activities deemed too immoral for minors (under 1 to see.

Any thoughts on what's going to happen, or which authors/series are going to be most affected?

Hopefully (in an ideal world) content creators will now actually have to rely on creativity and the ability to tell a story, rather than just smut and violence.

Hopefully (in an ideal world) we won't have to see scantily clad women halfway through the manga arc, with no purpose in the story, because the mangaka forgot where he was.


Edit: Furthermore after reading the second article it AMAZES me that loli mangaka act like their art is some DaVinci type shit and worry about how they're getting censored. These are the type of guys drawing little girls practically being molested by tentacles, otaku nerds and adults. Who the hell likes to read about that shit?

Some people have to no common sense and it's upsetting to see people line that think loli/ecchi manga is a necessity. No talent and plot in these guys' heads.

Air Gear for instance was a good manga but somewhere down the like Oh! Great just got tired and started drawing "cool" pictures and Simca half naked in a wheelchair. I don't even bother to read it anymore cause I have no idea what's going on.

Believe it or not, the manga used to be about skating with the titular air gear. lol

I thought they just used those to get to the naked girls quicker.

I sometimes like having violence and fan service in my anime. Not excessive but as a spice to enhance the story. Think of Guts going through a dozen soldiers cutting them up to show how strong and fierce he can be.

Though I don't like it when they put it in there just for the sake of it or to help it "sell". I'm looking at you Queens blade! >

Sounds like some pathetic author with masculinity issues is compensating for something. That sounds horrific.

If I remember correctly (anime) Guts cut through 100 people. Not dozens.
