Thread: Summer 2008 anime

As usual, the Summer 2008 previews are now out. Kind of low, so it looks like the real gems are going to come out in the Fall season. Nevertheless.

For some reason, I almost never end up watching the shows I thought I would be following at the beginning of the season, but there's some potentially interesting series here. Slayers is back, as is Hidamari Sketch and Zero no Tsukaima. Someday Dreamers and Sekirei make their debut too.

And then there's that weird one about an all-female-cast retelling of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. That one, I have to watch at least once, just for the sheer novelty of it. I know it's a complete gimmick, but still...

Most likely, though, I'm just going to end up following Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu. For Noto Mamiko's voice, if nothing else.

Any thoughts on what you want to watch this season?

Interesting, I'll probably try out a few of them. I'm a bit concernerd about Mission-E, since the first series was rushed and just felt like an abridged manga adaptation used to fill a time slot.

There's a second season of Someday's Dreamers? Innnnteresting.

Humm, I want to watch something dark again...

There's Nodame Cantabile: Paris Cut (second season) coming out for summer or fall of 2008...

But my wish would be to see a second season of the 1997 Berserk anime!

I don't like Random Curiosity's preview page. It neglects to mention either Detroit Metal City or the Space Adventure Cobra remake.


Other than that I'm looking forward to the new Birdy The Mighty series but hope Kazuki Akane doesn't fag it up with slow pacing, pointless plot meanderings and tenuous scientific explanations for all the plot devices he uses.

Edit: Also Bounen no Xamdou, Bones' new tenth anniversary mech show is looking pretty good. Yet another omission from that preview page.

OMG Slayers Revolution is coming. That is thee best news I've heard in a while. I'm a diehard Slayers fan. Love to watch their entire series and movies. Thxs for the heads-up dizzy

Granted, Random Curiosity doesn't always cover everything. However, I tend to like its format, because of all the details and summaries that Omni includes, plus the screenshots and trailers. I was actually debating which of several preview posts to link to when I first started the thread, but RC is usually the most in-depth, I find, so that's why I use it rather than the others. As a topic for discussion, the more info I can give in a single link, the better.

You're welcome. ^.^ Actually, I've never watched beyond the first few episodes of the first season of Slayers, but I've always wanted to catch up on that fandom. Looks like here's my chance.

Cobra anime!? A new one!? Seriously!? Whoa... Nostalgia aplenty... Now I'll have to do some research on that thing. Thanks for the info, though.

DMC anime seems to become even crazier than the manga... If I judge by the preview that is.

Anybody that thinks Blade of the Immortal won't sink? I guess it's worth testing, but I've got a bad feeling about the entire thing.

The only one I really care about is Slayers Revolution. Big Slayers fan who owns all three seasons on DVD and damn proud of it! In case anyone is looking for the manga, they already released the first chapter. You can find it on OneManga. Really like the artwork for the manga so far.
