    @pseudorandom

Have you read The Yellow book? I believe there's a story there that does what you just said... I'm not really sure if that is that title... It's one of kotonoha's seinen scans.

Yeah, I read that. It was ... amusing.
Today is always the most enjoyable day. Just ask Yotsuba.

Theres nothing like a good plot, that makes waiting for the next chapter, feel like dying. But there are some limits to how crude or bad the art can be. I dont like em too artistic, sure its great with a fresh new styled manga, but if you cant tell people from BG etc, I tend to drop the manga after a few vol.

But I dont think I've ever seen a manga where the art is amazing. I've met good art, but I've yet to see something that really amazes me.
Well then...why don't you just read a book? xD

Part of manga and anime is the art/style itself no? I mean would you not judge a movie by the atmosphere/look according to the story? Art and style play a huge role in story telling when it comes to anime, manga, cartoons, and movies in general. If the story is the only real important thing to you then why not just read a book since it generally gives you an idea of what thing should look like but it's partly up to you to decide on how the story looks. Judging anything should be judged as a whole shouldn't it? Sure it can be forgiving for a few nitpicky stuff but the fact still stands that when it comes to anime and manga it is a huge part.

One of the great/bad things about art is that it can save or revive/keep alive a bad series. If you have likable characters and a decent enough plot then some people just role with it since the appeal is there.

Although I'm curious to know, what mangas or animes have you read or watched that can only be considered "meh"? Are you expecting like a Mona Lisa smile or something? Imo everything should be judged differently since you know, not everything is the same. You can't judge a book and a movie the same way can ya?

Anyway going back to the op, I admit to preferring art more at times since when it comes to manga or anime I'm always looking for something new and appealing for inspiration and learning. So assuming that the art must be extremely well done I tend to go with the art. I'll also admit to starting new series just because of the art, but I don't always finish them or just skimm everything. >_>

Same goes with a few good stories, it might be really well written but I like things to come as a complete package or at least almost. xD

Well, I cant agree more that the art of the manga probably plays a more important role since you actually have something physical drawings to look at, then where a book thats based on plot, makes you use your imagination. And yes, Books does provide with a deeper more detailed plot then a manga does, in general. Books can even change the view/perception, you have on certain things. Never met a manga that can do that.

BUT I rarely read books, Dunno if its because I havent found any books that really speaks to me, or Im just too lazy to read 500 pages. There were a time Where I read a book per. week, but I guess the time where I quit reading books were about the same time where I discovered Manga XD

But in the end, The comment were directed towards Manga/comics not stories in general. (Or..Thats how I understood it >_>)

^There are some magas I read based on the art style alone, Not because its really great, but because I find it interesting. Probably a bad thing since the purpose of readin the manga becomes stupid.

Cant remember ever commenting on this subject O_o
I mean, I agree what you say about judgin a movie and a book the same way, but have I said differently?

Yeah the story is interesting, otherwise it wouldn't be successful, but his artwork is what really grabs (at least in my opinion).

They also had an exhibition this past month in Tokyo of Inoue-sensei's artwork (almost all of it manga, with a few large ink paintings as well) and it really blew me away. The man is a genius with inks in my opinion
Nope, But I heard about it several times. Guess its time to take a look at it, since its been nothing but great things^ Though its more of a aesthetically recommendation then plot wise.

^Lol. Uhhh... my fault, I was referring to "I've yet to see something that really amazes me" bit but it probably didn't come out right. xD
