Thread: out of ideas what to read

Hi read several recommendation-threads but i couldnt be satisfied ;( well, hope for your help..thanks

i'll start with a list of what i've read so far

As you can see, i like fighting! But it doenst have to be fighting..the best would be something tournament style (i.e. YuYu Hakusho, Flame of Recca, Eyeshield 21..i love those 3 !) or even just competitions (like Kenichi)
Most important is character development !! i just love to see someone weak slowly becoming the strongest, while developing new technics..i dislike real mature mangas..something like berserker or gantz, i tried but i dont really like it

umm..is there something else i should mention *thinks* hmm..no i dont thinks so, at least not for now

Hmm... Hajime no Ippo springs immediately to mind. Weak high school boy who gets bullied a lot wants to become strong, and ends up joining a boxing gym to become a pro boxer. Think Eyeshield 21, but about boxing instead. And waaaay longer... 80+ volumes and ongoing. Plenty of fighting and rising through the ranks, of course.

Other than that, perhaps H2. Two best friends are the ace pitcher and star batter of their middle school team. But when the pitcher is diagnosed with a glass elbow, he joins a school with no baseball team. However, he soon finds out that the diagnosis was false, and then starts to form a team to challenge his best friend, who had gone on to join one of the top high school baseball teams in the country. Along the way, there are many relationship tangles as well, letting the friends compete not just in baseball, but also in love. Think Rurouni Kenshin applied to baseball. 34 volumes, complete.

H2 sounds really interesting, gotta start with that
Ill try to read Hajime no Ippo afterwards, didnt read it before cause i heard it was "especially realistic" and to be honest..80 volumes do scare me but ill have to try, its gotta be famous for some reason

Hajime no ippo isn't especially realistic, it's all hugely glamorised and idealistic.

I'll also recommend Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. It's a fighting series which isn't in a tournament format , but excellent nevertheless.

Try out Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro (I got some Death Note-like vibes from this one) as well as Basilisk and Berserk (more hardcore versions of Ares). Have fun.

Try Higurashi no Naku Koro ni... if you like mystery/horror (in a weird way).

Hajime Ippo is a good choice if u havnt read it.
Instead of H2, read Major.
Change Guy could be in your taste.

If you didnt like Claymore and Elfen Lied then there not much I or anyone else can do for you.

However, I can suggest Rosario and Vampire. Its a decent supernatural manga and worth a read.

If you happen to like H2 then you'll have to take a look at Touch and other works of Adatchi Mitsuru. Also, if you'll like a more rowdy version of touch, you'll have to look at rookies - a bunch of thugs turned base ball players.

If you like deathnote, you might like to try to look at Monster and 20th Century boys. I believe they have the same air of mysteries and a few blood shed.

Since you enjoy competitions and sports manga, personally I recommend Slam Dunk, it's realistic and probably my favourite. It starts a bit slow but it gets really good. Hajime no Ippo also pops into mind. It's really long though.

Also Busou Renkin because it's by the same artist as Rurouni Kenshin. Last thing I can think of is Mahou Sensei Negima, it does competitions at one point, and the fighting's not bad. Beware of subtle adultry though, but you've already read Flame of Recca. x3
