Thread: I want to be Sad.

Well, not really, but I am bored and just want to find a good serious anime.. you know one with a depressing or sad sort of feel. You know, kinda like Elfen Lied or something. Maybe some dying involved, y'know? anywho, anyone know any good ones? Thanks ^_^

Pseudorandom, what is Saikano about?

Saikano is basically the story of a high school couple who has just fallen in love and started going out. But the girl also happens to be a cyborg - engineered for battle against threats to Japan... something which saps out traces of her personality and soul. How can the boyfriend deal with this, and what happens to the young couple as they struggle to continue their relationship in spite of it? (The subtitle of Saikano reads "The Last Love Song on this Little Planet", just to give you an idea...)

Hmm... along a similar line, I think Mai-HiME might suit. Admittedly, the first half is rather cheesy high-school romantic comedy with lots of fanservice, just to introduce all the characters and their personality quirks, but the story straightens out into more serious lines during the latter half, around episode 12-13. Mai is one of a bunch of girls who have been secretly and unknowingly assembled in Fuuka high school as part of a mystical rite that eventually produce a bride for the Obsidian Prince. These girls, called HiME, each control a huge mecha creature, and prophecy states that they will battle each other to eliminate all other creatures until only one remains standing. The threat: If your creature is defeated, your most beloved person will also vanish from the world. Of course, the girls start out with the best of intentions, making friends and vowing not to fight each other...

The full name of Saikano (which is an abbreviation) translates as "My Girlfriend, the Ultimate Weapon."

Well, I haven't recommended it in awhile but you can never go wrong with Rahxephon.
