Best animation you've ever seen
I'm interested to see what you people consider important in animation. Do you look for fluidity above all else? or perhaps realism? depth of detail? creativity and ingenuity? a wild sense of energy and dynamism? or a balanced and controlled sense of proportion and order? Maybe you consider animation of much lesser importance to the colours, backgrounds, character designs, scene composition, etc.?
Feel free to post examples of which anime or cartoons demonstrate what you appreciate most or even which studios you think produce the best work. Youtube links would be cool if possible.
I enjoy most of these things. Masses of detail like in Ghibli films can be enthralling, but so can careful attention to movement such as in disney films. But I do have a special soft spot for energy and dynamism. Take this senior animator whose works I have been enjoying quite a lot recently called hiroyuki Imaishi: YouTube - 今石洋之MAD
I think it's because everything is so vivid I can become completely enthralled by it easily, though I imagine some people will find it too exaggerated. He directed Gurren Lagann incase any of you were thinking of watching that.
I might post one or two more examples of things I like but really I'm interested in what you guys like most of all and what things have made an impression on you.
