^Yeah, I'd agree. But the fact that she kept is for so long does make you wonder a bit, even she said she wasn't sure why she kept it all that time. It's one of those times were you think back and ask yourself "What if I did X instead of Y".

It's a bit hard to say whether her feelings did not mature with her since we don't really know what happened in between all those years aside from the quick flashbacks. Imo it's just too much skepticism that you can't really tell but only guess.

good think stubby showed me the movie first. =p At least the first episode, i pursued more and found the rest myself.

but yeah, as i was saying in CC, i rewatched it and i kind of agree with beo on more closure with kanae. I mean she said what was going to happen and all between the two, but still. It was 10 or so years that have passed since those two had their departure, it'd would be nice to have an episode 3.5 just showing what she decided to do with her life. The VERY last thing u see of her is her watching takaki fly off back to tokyo for school (and the very end of the movie).

As for akari, seeing it for the 5th or so time, i feel like i can forgive her a little this time. I'm not sure why, but i kind of do....Also, do u guys think that she still felt something for him? Even if just a tad bit? I mean why do u think she didn't wait for him? Was she afraid of her past? Did she just not care or so? I mean i have my own theory, but i'd like to hear other people's opinion.

edit: as for my favorite scene, i love the satellite scene when it takes it's course into outer space. It's just so dramatic. Everything falls silent, but the satellite. The colors are gorgeous (of course it was throughout the entire movie), the scenery, everything was perfect. Well i guess my favorite episode would be a close toss up between 2nd and 3rd episode. 2nd because i love the scenery and the things takaki does (i kind of did the same things before) and 3rd because it has the epic ending.
Yea, poor Kanae. I was talking to my friend and we kinda agreed that she was the only fully likeable character in the entire movie.

I think Akari still sees Takaki in a sort of nostalgic and/or wistful way, him being probably her first love and all. She misses the time they spent together and would probably imagine from time to time what could-have-been, but she's been able to move on and get married and live her life.

Cosmonaut was my favourite part out of the three. That entire episode was pure epic win.

She gave up on Takaki after their first kiss and saying goodbye to him at the train station. If she'd mailed the letter and tried to pursue a long-distance relationship, it may have worked out. But she made a choice to cut off contact from him, and only kept the letter as a sort of memory of the times they shared together.

And now, lets go watch The Place Promised in our Early Days. Weeeeee~

    lol. Um....no and no?

How is she the only likable character? The only reason why I know you didn't like Takaki was because he didn't actually like Kanae iirc. Which is understandable, it was a one sided thing. I don't get how you really hate him for that when the chemistry just wasn't there... Personally I thought she was just in the way, didn't much care for her at all. Wasn't a love triangle and it wasn't like he was purposely leading her on.

And what are you talkin about? She and he were still talking to each other after the first kiss. They were texting each other back and forth in the second episode.

He could've came out and said he wasn't interested. IMO he knew that she was waiting for him after school all the time, and when she was trying to confess to him the stare that he gave her was downright unsettling.

And for the second part...I need to watch it again. When did she actually stop mailing him, anyhow?

Well if anything I'd say he was more confused or absent minded. Since I remember that one time where he was talking to himself saying something like "I'm not even sure why i'm here with this girl" and feeling guilty about it. Which I think he felt guilty about it because for one thing he didn't tell Akari about it and then he would write texts but never send them about his day and what not. He might have known she was waiting for him, but it didn't necessarily mean he was leading her on. Plus he was always lonely, it's nice to have someone to talk to. Imo he just wanted to do something to keep his mind off of his current situation of being so far away from Akari.

And um, doesn't really say when they actually stop texting each other back and forth, it's just some time in between the end of the second episode and third from what I can tell.

Well, I guess it depends on individual perception I suppose. But from what I hear, the novel makes it quite explicit that when Kanae tried to confess, it was Takaki's expression that scared her into not confessing.

But in Cosmonaut Takaki typed texts to himself. Wouldn't that mean that he's already stopped talking to Akari?

^Well we're talking about the movie here. =P

If I had the novel and it was translated I'd honestly have to see it for myself. That and I don't really see the problem with him giving her the vib of not confessing to him. He seemed a bit stressed so iono. *shrugs*

He was texting to himself at times, and there were times were he was texting her. Kanae actually pointed it out at one point too, I think it was when they were at the convenient store but I can't remember too clearly.

He seems really...cold. Towards girls who are not Akari's. Like, that's the vibe that I got during Cosmonaut. He and Kanae may have been "friends" but he didn't really seem all that friendly. Like he's someplace else all the time. Kinda reminds me of myself =/

I remember thinking that he was texting himself every time he was actually seen texting, but I'll have to rewatch it sometime to confirm.

Hm, he just had stuff on his mind. And Kanae said how much she hated him being so nice to him because it just made her feel worse because she knew he didn't like her.

He's nice, just really distant. Which makes him unlikeable =P
