    Try GetBackers.

The story is about two people, also known as the GetBackers. Their name is Ban Mido and Ginji Amano. They are really dirt poor most of the time, and sleeps in their car. But to require money, these two operate a freelance "Get back" your lost item servise. Its no matter what the Item is, they will get it back.
Their motto is: "We get back what shouldn't be gone".
Its really funny, Its an Comedy, action/adventure. Oh, did I mention that they had some special abilities?

The manga in Ongoing and got about 9-10 vol. I think.

I'll Probably post some more, when I can think of more good mangas to recommend .

39 volumes, whereas in english nowhere near everything has been scanlated. Awesome, though

    EDIT: Not ongoing, btw.

    Flame of Recca, possibly.
Today is always the most enjoyable day. Just ask Yotsuba.

For some reason less popular but it is quite awesome : http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=164

Although I need to say that latest volumes start to remind me of Samurai Deeper Kyo..and for me it's like quality drop.

And this for something less serious : http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=1122

Well, you won't find more than ten volumes scanlated I think, but Tokyopop has released quite much of it. If you find their's scanned you know who report to. (ME)

BTW: Read Berserk! Fucking do it! Now!

+1 for Flame of Recca. Recca is a teenage boy in modern-day Japan who still wants to be a ninja. He also has a secret - he has the ability to create fire from his body. Unbeknowst to him, Recca is the last descendant of the Hokage ninja, a ninja clan famous for their control of fire and the creation of mystical elemental weapons. When Recca meets a beautiful girl, Sakoshita Yanagi, he takes her as his princess and swears loyalty to her as a ninja. Flame of Recca has good story continuity, even though it's basically made up of 3-4 long arcs of fighting battles strung together. The development of the story behind the Hokage legacy and Recca's own flame at the end is what makes it a winner. (33 volumes, completely scanlated)

Another series you could try is Eatman, set in a distant sci-fi world. It's a whole bunch of stories about the World's Greatest Explorer/Adventurer, Bolt Crank. Bolt has the unique ability to eat anything and make it re-form from any part of his body (eg. eating the parts for a machine-gun and then projecting it from his hand). He takes on various missions for pay, and slowly other adventurers also start to work together with him. Each chapter is usually a new mission, though there's one or two long story arcs. The best thing about Eat-Man is that there's usually a twist at the end of every story which surprises you. (19 volumes, completely scanlated)

Alternatively, if you like Get Backers, Gunsmith Cats might suit as well. More action than adventure (since the characters don't really "go out into the world to explore"...), but nevertheless a good read. Rally Vincent and Minnie May Watson are two part-time female bounty hunters in Chicago. Rally is a crack shot with guns and Minnie May is an explosives expert. Together, they team up to bring down criminals, renegades, and other people living on the fringe of the law. (9 volumes, completely scanlated)

    -Dizzy-
Manga Genre Focus: Romance, Comedy, Slice-of-life. Primarily shounen, then seinen and shoujo.

^BUT berserk ftted your original post perfectly.

Otherwise Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is an amazing story, albeit quite short. A pure science-fiction adventure that kicks ass.
