Thread: Romantic Comedy Anime

If possible, could people here perhaps recommend some good romantic comedy anime series? I'm expecially interested in series where the boy and girl actually end up together at some point. (though any kind of romantic comedy is fine)

I've seen many series lately, but from memory, the only series I can think of where the two main characters actually end up together are "Seto no Hanayome", and "Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku o!"

"Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku o!" I expecially enjoyed, since the boy and girl fell in love on the very first episode, and they were together, in love, throughout the entire series. I really liked that.

Anyway, I'm asking because, well, the majority of romantic comedy anime series I've seen either has several females who fall in love with the the boy, but he never chooses one by the end of the series, or the whole "nobody gets together, and everything remains exacally the same" kind of ending.

I don't mind those series, but that kind of ending is getting kind of stale. Still, I'd be happy with recommendations for any romantic comedy anime at all

Sounds like you've been watching mostly shounen romances (written for boys) instead of shoujo romances (written for girls). The many-girls thing is kinda a giveaway there. If you were asking for manga, I'd have a lot of suggestions, but I don't actually watch much anime. But one I can recommend is Lovely Complex. Well, I haven't watched through to the end, but what I've seen was faithful to the (hillarious) manga. Tallest girl in the class gets paired with the shortest boy by everyone else, because they think it's funny, to the pair's extreme annoyance.

I'm not sure, but you can try Zero no Tsukaima, it's not 100&#37; romance & comedy but i think you may enjoy it, funny stuff and the main characters are together... kind of <_<

... my mind is dry at the moment, can't think of anything else even though i know there's more.

I've actually seen Zero no Tsukaima, but thank you for the recommendation. I'll check out Lovely Complex and see what that's like. Thank you ^.^

I've read GTO as well, and absolutely love it.

But at the moment, I'm looking for anime. I've come to realise that, if there are both an anime and manga version of the same series, the manga is usually vastly superior to the anime.

Because of that, I can never seem to enjoy the anime as much because it just plain wasn't as good as the manga was. So I want to watch a bunch of anime for a change, before going back to manga.

And of course, I enjoy romantic comedy series the best (as long as they aren't too sad or depressing) which is why I'm asking for recommendations

Welcome to the NHK? There is a manga, too, but both are based on a novel, so that shouldn't matter. They are not very alike either, the manga and the anime so both are worth checking out. Absolutely hilarious show.

I don't watch much comedy, since I am more a manga person in that case. I could give you tons of mangas, though, if you want them.

Well, I just finished watching "Nagasarete Airanto", and I loved it. However, just like almost every other romantic comedy.. nothing is resolved at the end.

Even though the main male and female chaarcters develop feelings for each other, and by the end it's clear they're in love, they never admit their feelings, and everything remains the same.

I loved the series, so I was pretty disappointed in that ending. Isn't there ANY series where the male and female end up together at some point? I just can't seem to find any at all!

(also, I'm currently reading Lovely Complex per the recommendation -couldn't find the anime- and have had no luck finding NHK)

Hmmm... kind of tough. The trouble is, of course, that in order for a series to remain a romantic comedy (as opposed to a romantic drama) is that it should have sitcom (situational comedy) elements, which basically means that at the end of every episode, the situation should reset to the same relationships so that we can move the characters onto a different situation. Or alternatively, if they draw from another source (manga, light novel, game, etc.), they often want to leave room for a second season, so don't finish things off.

Off the top of my head, Kodocha, Karin (Chibi Vampire) and Nodame Cantabile should have fairly conclusive endings, though they are actually romantic dramas with just high amounts of comedic energy, not true romantic comedies. Alternatively, Ouran High School Host Club, School Rumble and The Wallflower are true situational romantic comedies, but end with a life-goes-on.

Hmmm... actually, perhaps the Full Metal Panic series might be able to hold you, if you're willing to slog through the mecha action/adventure parts. It's based on a light novel series, with three seasons. Season 1 introduces the characters and is primarily focused on the action aspects, though there are some occasional moments of romance and comedy here and there. It's the second season (Fumoffu) that really pushes the romantic comedy elements of the series. (Basically, the situations in Fumoffu actually happen in-between the events of season 1, but they were left out and formed into their own season). And season 3 (The Second Raid) continue the story from where season 1 left off, with further development of the romance between the two main leads. Even then, though, there's still lots more development that could happen in the future (hopefully when the fourth season comes out).

Quite frankly, I can't think of an anime series which did not have a better manga or light novel equivalent. Very few anime-original romantic comedy series out there. Maybe game-based anime stand a better chance. Of them, Kanon (2002) is worth watching, and has a good ending, but is not really comedic.

EDIT: Eek, I forgot Mahoraba ~ Heartful Days~! *smacks head*. That series is perfectly suited to what you're looking for. And the anime ends at a very nice point, satisfying in its own right, and also in a good position to transition into the ongoing manga storyline, which is being scanlated as we speak.
