    Default Recommendations?

I read well, anything. Though no shounen please, unless it really stands out, because chances are I've already heard of it / read it / didn't like it / or read something almost identical to it. Actually I want to try some yaoi / yuri since I've haven't read any of that stuff yet, might as well try it out. Though anything goes just remember not to mention anything too popular, chances are I've read it. Some old stuff may be nice, I just read Maison Ikkoku so maybe something along that line.

A list of manga I've read, I'm not that insane--yet. Suffice to say I've read a lot.

If you want yaoi, read Reverse?!. It's absolutely hilarious. xD Although since I haven't really read any other yaoi manga, I can't say whether it's typical of the genre or not. There's also Gravitation, which - in my opinion - is one of the best series about music and fame out there. ^_^ And popular.

Um... Oh, and read Nana. Safe Again Today is also a personal favourite, and I haven't heard too many people discussing it, so...? Have you read many shoujo/seinen/josei series, or just the popular ones, or...? Because aside from that, I don't really know what to add.

I've probably read a slightly less seinen than shounen (though I probably finished/am reading more seinen), and a bit less shoujo than seinen, haven't read much josei (I've read Nana, Nodame Cantabile and Gokusen, maybe a few others) but then again there aren't that many josei series to begin with.

Edit: As for favourite for ongoing series, Yotsubato!, Hourou Musuko and Pluto in seinen; Nodame and Nana in josei; One Piece and Claymore for shounen and well shoujo series aren't being scanlated quick enough for my taste, Skip Beat I guess.

I encourage people to make their manga lists on mangaupdates.com - easy way to search for new releases, rank the manga and see if there was any new release you haven't read yet.

I will share with you my list, see if you can find something interesting

I have ranked most of the manga's the way I felt about them, but mostly I gave high scores (I'm quite lenient).

Read School Rumble - I just reread it for fun and it's still great comedy

I did once then dynamic IP screwed that idea over so bad that it's not even funny. I tried School Rumble and never really liked it. Oh, and thanks for reminding me to read NGE, downloaded it (or it got on my computer some how, my brother I guess, and never got around to reading it.)

Go try Bitter Virgin. It's a seinen and a normal romance/drama.

EDIT: And what I mean by that is there is no gay couples. It is by no means a normal boy meets girl story.

Hmm... have you read all the rest of Rumiko Takahashi's or Mitsuru Adachi's works? Aside from the more popular ones like Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha, Touch, H2, Rough, etc... some of the more obscure ones might be worth a read. I personally consider Adachi's Jinbe a very short but interesting take on incest. And Nine is always good for a reminiscence. As for Takahashi's works, Mermaid Saga is fairly good (though gruesome at times). And both of their anthologies of short stories are excellent, of course. Adachi always focuses on youth, while Takahashi oscillates between fantasy, romance and horror.

Please tell me you have read Salad Days. If not, that automatically goes to the top of the list after Maison Ikkoku as the best thematic study of love that I know of. And you might want to have a look at the same mangaka's thematic study of the sex/pleasure industry in School of Water Business.

As for seinen, Yume de Aetara is relatively unknown (but not for long, if I have anything to do about it). Gunsmith Cats and Eat-Man are also good seinen action/adventures. If you want something a little deeper, try Believers. It's a seinen manga about the conflict between faith and lust, delusions and the inability to cope with reality.

If you want a simple and sweet comedy like Yotsuba&!, go for Love Roma. I can almost guarantee nobody here pays much attention to it, but it's still good. All about a young man who is absolutely honest (i.e. no sense of modesty, tact or deception), pursuing a romantic relationship with a girl in his class. Very much of a boke-tsukkomi relationship.

And since shoujo series are scanlated too slow for you, I'll only recommend completed ones. From Far Away is one I just came across the other day, that no one seems to know of. Complete at 14 volumes, fairly good take on the shoujo fantasy romance/adventure (but that's not my specialty genre, so don't quote me on that).

Hmm... wasn't there a thread for recommending obscure manga once? I wonder what happened to it...

You lose your guarantee -- I like Love Roma a lot. I just never get around to recommending it. And you're right about its affinity with Yotsuba&!.
Today is always the most enjoyable day. Just ask Yotsuba.

I would also recommen Love Roma to anyone who would enjoy some romance and comedy. So I guess you're not as alone as you thought, eh?
