I suppose "cute, innocent romance" is pretty much what I am looking for atm. A bit tired of complicated plots and complex characters, so I just want something relaxing and amusing. (If there was ever such as thing as a Yotsuba&! for shoujo, that would accurately describe what I want). I get kind of annoyed by inconsistent plots and bad storytelling, though, so perhaps Maigo ne Kemonotachi isn't the right thing (though I have yet to try it).

Oh, and Nodame is excellent, yeah. The part I really liked best was the first performance of the "S" orchestra and Mine acting dramatically with his group of violinists.

I'd read Yotsuba&! for shoujo in a heartbeat.
Today is always the most enjoyable day. Just ask Yotsuba.

Hm.. funny and light-hearted shoujos (:

-Nodame Cantabile (actually I think you've read this so I'm just writing this for future people reading this thread)
    -Skip Beat
-Hana Kimi (but only till like, volume 13. After that the whole thing goes down the drain)
    -Otomen
    -Perfect Girl Evolution
    -Reaching You
    -Beauty Pop
    -Kimi wa Petto
-Rockin' Heaven (kind of pure fluff.. actually)
-Saboten no Himitsu (more fluff haha)
-Safe Again Today (shoujo but no actual romance, VERY recommended)
    -Superior
-The Kidnapping of Minja Jo's Boyfriend
    -You're My Girlfriend
-Koukou Debut (I only liked the beginning though, after that it just kinda wore off)
-Beauty is the Beast (actually any of Matsumoto Toma's works are absolute masterpieces)
    -Her Majesty's Dog
-They Too Love (extremely recommended, funny, touching, sweet school comedy)

I'm not too big on the whole shoujo genre, so my recommendation might suck; but try Position. It's not a shoujo, but it's done by the same mangaka as Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou (can't recall her name) --> Thanks to pseudorandom his name would be Hitoshi Ashinano (still recommended)

Also, it's not shoujo but read Dance till tomorrow for romance, and Aqua for relaxation.

Geh. Dance til Tomorrow is precisely the sort of manga I don't want to read right now. (I've already finished it long ago, though). Not only is there a lot of meaningless sex, the comedy is absent, the romance is nullified by the ending, and the ending is generally just a huge downer.

But I'll try Position and Aqua, thanks. And all the ones on boatswain's list as well... looks like I've got enough to keep me going for the next three months or so.

You found no humour in Dance 'till Tomorrow? I admit it was sort of a dark humour, but it was there; and the ending wasn't really half bad either. Anyways, I hope you find what you're looking for.

EDIT: Forgot about this one, but you could also read One Pound Gospel and Rumic Theatre

I just read Aqua and Aria. Absolutely loved them! I haven't read anything so peaceful in a long while, and the scenery artwork is beautiful too. Not to mention Alicia-san is lovely! ^_^

A Thousand Years of Snow is sorta... meh. Reminds me of Love Monster. Is it really finished? It doesn't seem finished to me, but StopTazmo marks it blue... from what I can tell, it's on hiatus, not complete.

Kamichu turned out to be mildly entertaining. Sort of what you get when you mix Kekkaishi with Azumanga Daioh. Enjoyable, but not that memorable (for me, anyway)beyond the novel concept.

Already read One Pound Gospel and Rumic Theatre, but thanks anyway. Now off to try some more series.

A Thousand Years of Snow is supposedly finished, although the manga-ka apparently wants to write more for it. Still, she's busy with another big project (Ouran Koukou Host Club) so who knows how that will go. Sort of like Saenagi Ryou, I guess... she says she hasn't finished Nanaki and Sequence, but...
