Default Another "recommendation" thread

Hi guys, new here but seems to be a nice community.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a manga with good female combat.

Fairly open to whatever, for example, FvF or MvF, and not worried about gore or nudity. Small description would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums. Nice to see a sensible, polite newbie who reads first. Okay, here are some for you:

Tokyo Crazy Paradise - Tsubasa is a girl disguised as a boy in a near-future Tokyo City living with her siblings after their parents, who were both police detectives, died in a yakuza battle. However, due to a series of circumstances, she becomes indebted to her classmate Ryuji, who happens to be the Sandaime (third-generation chief) of a powerful yakuza clan. Tsubasa has no choice but to enter into his service as a bodyguard in order to work off the debt, and as time goes by, gets drawn more and more into the world of the yakuza as she fights alongside Ryuji and his gang members.

Tenjou Tenge - Nagi Souchiro and his friend Bob enter a new high school where they start causing trouble in an attempt to rule the school. Unfortunately, they quickly run into problems when they meet some of the student clubs who are also battling for power within the school. They get drafted into one of the clubs, which is led by Natsumi Maya and her younger sister Aya, both talented martial artists who are attempting to put right an ancient mistake that was created a few years ago. Or so the story goes. (The storytelling is terrible, but the fight scenes are pretty awesome. If you want pure combat without bothering about plot, TenTen is the right manga for you. Everybody fights everybody.)

Gunsmith Cats - Rally Vincent and Minnie May Watson are two female bounty hunters living in modern-day Chicago. One is a gun specialist, and the other is an explosives expert. They get mixed up in all sorts of adventures as they hunt down criminals, compete with rival bounty hunters, and eventually get sucked into a drug war that threatens all of their family and friends.

... there are actually quite a few more: Air Gear, Claymore, Appleseed, Red Lion, even Ranma 1/2, but let's just go with the above three first.

To add to Dizzy's list, how about:

Hayate x Blade - Orphan Hayate enters an all-girls school where everything is determined by your rank as a duelist -- as in with swords, and all fighting is done in pairs, with a sword-sister (translating loosely). Being our heroine, she of course sets her sights on getting the school's champion swordswoman for her partner. Expect loads of yuri overtones very little actual yuri. Also expect lots of fencing and even more silliness.

Mai-HiME / Mai-Otome - Um. I can't even begin to describe these. Both have schoolgirls-with-power-objects in training, which means lots of combat in training and rivalry. Both have the same characters, in alternate continuities. Beyond that, check out someplace like wikipedia for descriptions.

Hot Blooded Woman - Title character is the boss of a school gang. Twice over, after a shinigami "accidentally" transfers her spirit into another body and she claws her way to the top again.
Today is always the most enjoyable day. Just ask Yotsuba.

+1 for Gunsmith Cats. It's the best goddamn thing since sliced bread.

on the other hand if you just want a bit of trashy entertainment with fighting schoolgirls, ikki tousen and battle club are both fine too.

"Reads"? As in the rules? :P I didn't actually see any specific rule about where to post recommendation requests, but did get the idea after reading some of the other topics posted in the wrong forum (unless there's another Rules outside of the Help forum).

I probably should have stated in my original post that the female doesn't have to prevail, if that helps at all. The last manga I read was Basilisk, and I quite liked
Hatorubi, and although didn't mind the fact that she was killed, was quite disappointed how quickly she was taken out. Would have preferred some sort of battle prior to her demise.
haha, and trashy isn't always bad. I think I did take a look at Ikki Tousen before, and seeing girls battle and slowly lose their clothes can be "fun". In fact, I think they're making a game on the series which does contain clothes tearing.

But thanks so much for the recommendations and for providing descriptions, much appreciated. I'll take a flick through them to see what I like.

sure! it's fine to read stuff like that as long as you see it as light entertainment rather than genuinely good.
