    Default Yaoi and Yuri.

I've clicked the search bar and searched for those two (yaoi and yuri). But didn't find any thread so I'm starting one.

Could someone explain to me the appeal of yaoi and/or yuri? I know there are hundreds, or maybe even thousands of yaoi fans out there, and I'm not quite sure about the yuri part. So could anyone enlighten me?

Thanks for silverwmoon for the purty sig :3

^ See! See what I mean! I never really understood homo relationships. Not that I don't like them, (I have one or two friends who are gay) but I'm just not quite sure what's the attracting force for it.

Are you asking why people are homosexual or why some people find same-sex couples of the opposite gender attractive?

Because there is lot of gay people or people thinking that gay is okay (Girls thinking that guy being with guy is hot...for some unexplained reasons). Come on, it's like asking a gay person why he likes hairy and dirty male anus than nice and soft pair of female boobs.

#5 is pretty much the same question as #4. And it's the same question as Why is there so much slashfic? and Why is there so much lesbian sex in straight (i.e., men's) porn? If the answer to none of those are intuitive to you, then you may just want to mark it as an "I don't get it" and move on.

(Speaking for myself, as someone who writes queer romances for money, if I find Xs sexually attractive, it's "intuitively obvious" why someone would as well, and if I see two Xs having sex, I get twice as many characters to identify with. Anything further gets us into gender theory, and trust me, we DON'T want to go there.)

Oh okay, you can remove/delete this thread. I have been enlightened. Anyways I just asked the question because two or three days ago, while i was looking for a good fic to read, as i scanned the site, there were a huge number of yaoi fics and it peaked my curiosity as to why some writers are, well writing yaoi fics.

The answer to why people write yaoi fics is because there are many screwed up fangirls out there who think two men with each other is the hottest thing ever, and terribly romantic. These are also the kind of girls who read bad and plotless shoujo manga, because they have bad taste.

...Incidentally, not ALL same-sex couple manga are bad. There are good and interesting yaoi (and yuri, I'm sure) manga out there. They're just rare, because most people who want a good story stay away from that kind of thing.

Well, compare erotica/porn created by gays for gays to that created by/for straights of the opposite gender. The former tends to be good as erotica (or, if you will, porn), no matter what your personal orientation; the latter tends to fetishize the orientation and is often highly straightjacketed into a few types of plots and characters.

All of which by way of saying, yeah, there's good yuri as well -- most of it written by and for lesbians.
