Default Anime Dub--Where do You Stand?

When watching anime movies which do you prefer:

    1. English dub

    OR

    2. Japanese voice over with English subtitles

I'm personally quite torn on which is the right way. There are some movies like Miyazaki's where the English dubbing isn't too bad but there are others that can't be tolerated. Where do you stand? Would you listen to the English dub of the Ghost in the Shell movies? How about the End of Evangelion? Is there a general consensus on which is the best way or is it ultimately up to personal preference?

Always subtitles, no matter what the language. That's the way it's originally meant to be... those are the actors and their voices. Subtitles are ALWAYS the best way.

(On the other hand, if there are two options, the dub may sometimes be better. I heard Cowboy Bebop is good, and I'm praying that if they ever license DGM, they'll use APPROPRIATE voices. Still doesn't mean that I like dubs, though.)

I HATE Dubs! no matter what language..I prefer the orgianal voices with subs, unless its original english to begin with.
Cant stand dubs, they always screw things up with poor acting..the original got more "spirit" in the acting..

I don't watch a lot of anime but some dubs are OK, like FLCL.

    Still, in general, definitely subs.

@Raszagal: Then you haven't heard the dubs for Cowboy Bebop or Black Lagoon. (DVDs! Collect the dvds! ^_^ Good shows deserve to be collected. That is, actually bought and paid for. Radical idea, huh?)

It's hit or miss, for me. Sometimes dub works and sometimes it doesn't.

EDIT: ^_^ Got overposted. Somewhat true about anime being lower quality in comparison to manga. (I'd rant about Claymore in that context, but this really isn't the place...)

^ I'll expand a bit on my previous comment: I don't watch anime a lot because I don't want to, it takes up too much time compared to manga, and it's generally of a lower quality when it's a series that's been converted from a manga to anime (as it generally is).

I usually prefer the sub over the dub, mainly because usually the English voice acting isn't up to the quality of the original (whether because of the actors or the directing, I can't tell). Sometimes, however, usually for feature films like some of Miyazaki's, the dub is pretty good and I'll happily watch either form.

(A dub can be better than the original -- Miyazaki claims the French dub of Porco Russo is better than the Japanese version.)
Today is always the most enjoyable day. Just ask Yotsuba.

Actually the Ghost in the shell dub is okay, Even though its english voices its still a timeless Anime classic, it gotta be one of the first Animes I'v seen..and Fist of the north star offcause ^^

But The Japanses just act on it like its their life, they scream like they would in real life..love those crazy panty loving Japanese ^^

I'll give both a chance if possible, but usually just watch whichever I can get my hands on. Some english voiceovers sound as good or even better than the japanese ones (cowboy bebop, gungrave, ninja scroll, The Big O, etc.) not a great deal though.

I've never seen evangelion's dub, though I imagine hearing Shinji's whiny dialogue would infuriate me even more in english than it did in japanese.
Ghost in the shell had a good dub, easily on the same level as the japanese voice acting.
