If manga became like american comic books...I guess I'd probably keep the torch of manga burning throughout the world! I would spread its light on every country out there! GO MANGA!!!!!
But, um, seriously...I guess I'd probably go insane () or get real mad (). Grrrrrrr....

Ever since I learned Superman could lift 2 billion tons and travel at the speed of light... I stopped thinking of Dragonball Z as being too very exaggeratory - that being said, manga would be very single-character focused and likely have several side series for each one.

THE INCREDIBLE NARUTO! (Drawn by some random artist hired by the same company)
The Magnificent Combination! (Luffy/Goku) (not Cross Epoch - which is awesome.)
    The Amazing Adventures of Sakura!
    Dangerous Damsel (Inu based series)
    Original Warrior (Kenpachi series)

So on, so forth, and onward.

Ok, I've read both manga and american comics, to be honest if there's an alternate universe where manga were looks exactly like american comics, I can see myself became a thespian or psychological major or a law graduate with blah future and depressed.

I quit following american comics after I finish reading some young justice. I've followed green lantern, flash, impulse, thunderbolts, a little bit of JLA and as I mention above young justice.

I stopped flash after I realize it will be a neverending roller coaster boohoo storyline of a superhero that doesn't hide his identity, I stoped reading thunderbolts when the story became a basic superheroes stories with basic twist (twist twast twist), JLA? bored with overacting style of artwork (look! it's superman!! look! it's wonderwoman!! look! it's aquaman!!! and so on and so on), I follow green lantern because it's interesting and the parallax storyline is not bad either, but when they bring past hal jordan to the present and he saw coast city without causing time paradox, I abruptly stop and never looks back, Impulse were interesting because of the relaxed pace of story (ironically with a speedster) with some deep stories, then they cancelled it.............. and so do young justice..................

last time I heard superboy were dead, captain america also bites the dust, and they ridiculously turn impulse into new flash but killed abruptly!!

it seems like DC and Marvel have a new craze this years, kill their characters, lot of non-famous characters croaked, while popular characters who died will be guaranteed to be revived (me: ollie, what are you doing here? you're supposed to be croaked long time ago, ollie: but, but, I'm alive again, me: but you're a friggin mortal human with ability to only use bow and arrow, if you're dead, you're screwed, ollie: but......... I'm alive, me: *sigh* mum, can I borrow the axe? I need it to kill a zombie mum: yes of course dear me: here you go ollie, ollie: *scream*)

and really, why the superhero victim always be an unfamous one? in crisis stories the one screwed (sorry no pun intended) were elongated man and his wife? I mean, why not taking a bold step and having lois lane and clark kent get it, can you imagine good ol' supes getting pissed off and rampaging around the dc world in search of dr light?

so no please don't, manga have it's beauty of the story having an end, and/or good or crazy twist, and/or character croaked without being revived (except for DBZ, and oh, jojo have one character revived, but the writer kill him again in the end, no biggie), and ending with different style (good, bad, sad, angry, cool, etc etc) for example I were surprised when rei thunderjet (spoiler alert) ended with his love interest dead and the war never end. (spoiler end)

phew, that's all folks........................ did I talk like that rabbit?

I'm reminded of the difference between soap operas and telenovellas -- and why I prefer the latter.

Really famous mangas do get several different retellings by different authors. Kamen Rider, Osamu Tezuka mangas, Go Nagai mangas, Golgo 13...

when it's done like that I don't mind at all, but I know very little about American comics so have no idea if this is a valid comparison or not.

it seems that when mangaka remake an manga series they usually respected the old mangaka more, I've read Pluto by Ozamu tezuka and when I read Naoki Urasawa's Pluto it doesn't betray the old one in sense of the feeling of the story even though many of it's story were restyled with Naoki Urusawa style (more suspense, mature and serious tone, political and cultural view).

Hmm... actually, the whole multiple-authors-writing-different-versions thing might be interesting. I wouldn't mind seeing Mitsuru Adachi continuing Ranma 1/2, for instance, or Rumiko Takahashi playing with Adachi's characters, or Kobayashi Jin continuing either of their works.

Of course, the DOWNside to that is that it might end up something like Oh!Great doing his version of H2, or Touch, or Maison Ikkoku... *shudder*

The Oh!Great Adachi redo to really fear is Rough. (Owwwwwww.)

I'm trying to imaging an Adachi episode of Ranma 1/2 and totally failing. I'm not sure he has enough, well, insanity for it. Not that it would be a BAD take, but, well.

@RazgrizOne- Ok, as a person who reads both I'm going to say it may be possible because THERES MORE TO COMIC BOOKS THAN JUST PLAIN SUPERHEROES. Seriously, lets get that fact straight since it doesn't seem as though you've read anything but comics involving super heroes. It'd be like saying all animes are either a DBZ, Naruto, or Bleach. Just because you've followed DC and Marvel doesn't mean that it covers all comics in general.

Now, on terms of how well it'd be done then that'd be debatable... at times a few series have used alternate universes, "oneshots" of a series of what if's, etc. so that's how they've been able to keep it going. Personally I think it could be done, but as to how great it'd be then I wouldn't be so sure.
