Someone already said it. Adaptations are always weaker in comparison to its original counterparts. Of course, this would usually be due to the fact that the adaptation, at one point or another, would try to deviate from the source material, thus, the drop of quality. Especially when the adaptation is simply trying to prolong itself to buy time.

If there is one adaptation that I think would be slightly better than the manga, I'd say it'd be Hunter x Hunter, but only because it remained true to the manga, without any filler whatsoever. The soundtrack is also a very nice addition. Heck, even with the manga's hiatus, the anime never dared to continue with fillers. Now, if given a choice between two identical storylines, would one not prefer to see it animated? The only thing I hated about the anime was that they never animated the Hisoka x Kastro fight.

    Edit:
They also removed the Love Love Town from Greed Island, and I loved that part >.<

I never read the Wolf's Rain manga but I hated the anime. I tried watching it twice but I could never finish it.

The majority of animes which are better than the mangas are the one which are the original work -like somebody said- (Cowboy Bebop/Samouraļ Champloo and the others...)

But when it is an adaptation of a manga, it's generally a failure. I mean Akira the manga is great, but the movie is not as good at all, same thing for Battle Angel Alita, same thing with Berserk, same thing with GTO...

I think the only exception would be Elfen Lied...

My favorites : Berserk, Akira, Monster, Battle Angel Alita, Shamo, 20th Century Boys, Real, Say Hello To Black Jack, GTO, Death Note, Blade Of The Immortal, Vagabond, Quartier Lointain, Hajime No Ippo, Slam Dunk, Dorohedoro, Gantz, Eden, Glaucos.

Ok, it usually takes me a lot longer to start ranting on a manga but... has anyone read Burst Anger/Bakuretsu Tenshi?

    ---rant mode on---

I watched the anime, and could rate it as mediocre. The plot was, or seemed, all over the place, it could be boring, but for the most part, it was watchable. However, the manga is imo one of the worst wastes of paper, ink, and bandwidth I've seen. I'm starting to wonder if it's not actually worth it to follow that... thing - it's so bad that it might actually go into good from the other side. Or, more likely, deserves knowing as probably the worst thing ever, kinda like getting ripped off at poker by Hitler. Of course, this is most likely a moot point - if it does somehow manage to get worse, it will need special training, diet and viewing equipment to prevent one's brain from imploding as soon as one gets past page 3.

---rant mode off. have a nice day!---

I'd say Elfen Lied. I've never read the manga but it looks terrible. I mean the images.

Lucky Star and Azumanga Daioh. Well the manga was a 4-koma to begin with, there's no surprise that the anime is better. And Black Cat has some pretty good battle scenes compared to the manga.
