Prefered manga length
I'm curious -- what are people's favorite length of manga? Not that we necessarily have just one perferred size range, but work with me here.
Myself, I'm a little bemused to realize that while I think that about 6 to 10 volumes is the right size story, second and third favorite mangas are 14 and 12 volumes, respectively (the favorite is incomplete).
hmm...Of all the manga I've read, the "correct" amount of volumes should be 30-50. You might think it's a bit too high, but for the story to have some deapth it is necessary for it to be that long, also so we can get the background info. on each of the main characters so we can see them develop.
If its too short we will be left hangin with more questions, lijke, who that person was like in the past, etc. etc. A good manga will take it's time to develop a good story with many characters to relate to.
if the story never drags on it should continue forever. but if the story begins to be steralized and typical should be cut off immediately
That's bull. Give me the name of a Manga that has done what you have said here, only to tell the story with minimum procrastination, and that keeps you absorbed from start to finish.

Akira is a prime example of how a Manga should be done. Not only do you get to know the main characters, but you also get to know the sub-characters almost as much. There is minimal time wasting and it is 6 volumes long. Mind you, the chapters are longer.
I voted for 6-10.
Well One piece is doing that pretty good...
It really depends on the manga. A lot of romance manga are best around 3-6 volumes, and adventure series are great when they're really long. That said, I tend to like shounen adventures, and my favourite series are... hm... 13, 20, and 50+ volumes, and all ongoing? I like really long series, actually. ^_^;; They're a pain to catch up on, but if they're good, they're so much fun...
...Even Nana is nearly 20 volumes. Ha...
OK, let me put One Piece under the spotlight for you then.

Luffy & Co travel, something occurs as they near an island. They get to the island where they then need to or become separated. Soon after they end up having a respective fight against a person who has abilities akin to theirs or completely opposite. They win, and acquire higher bounty's and possibly a new crew member.
Don't get me wrong. OP is an excellent Manga, and a huge universe. But the battle structures have becoming predictable. Oda has done a pretty good job of expanding and using his sub-characters, but still falls short because they show up randomly, and we don't get to see how they actually developed.
He resorts to the same flashback story telling every major arc too, which is another predictability.
One Piece has depth, but rarely goes in-depth with the story telling.
For the most part, I think you can get done what needs to be done within about 25-30 volumes, and that's on the long side.
I'm not at all enamored to ongoing series who go way past this length. The only two I can think of where it's been a worthwhile choice are Hajime no Ippo and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and even Jojo has story split into parts each with a different main character to keep it interesting.
I agree that different genres have different optimum lengths. and while I appreciate that adventure titles will usually need more than others to finish the story, I do not believe this justifies trying to keep on drawing for as long as you can as though it were a sort of marathon.
I think anywhere between 4 volumes and 30 can be enjoyable for me. I don't a have a preference more specific than that.
As long as I see the discussion in this forum i will read that manga no matter how many the volumes are...
I voted for 2-5 and 6-10 volumes because if the manga is like 300+ chapters, the story just gets dragged and everything that happens is the same so if it's just short it will be straight to the point and won't cause much frustration......
