Don't blindly believe all what MangaUpdates says since generally people love to screw up the genres...
I've seen josei manga listed in it too, for one... by the way, Wikipedia isn't always right either. Also, it's got distinct characteristics of josei manga (adult characters, for instance, in adult relationships) and is considered too "adult" for American audiences that normally read shoujo. That's why Viz stopped publishing it in Shojo Beat.

Anyways, why can't Nana be josei? Because Wiki said so? Manga-Updates genres have been more reliable in my opinion, and there's no reason for it to be considered josei other than it being so (unlike the shoujo label, which is the result of Viz). I have yet to find someone other than you two who consider it "shoujo".

Edit: 14-18? Really? I'm pretty sure Nana is intended for an older audience... well, you get that age variety in all magazines.

sry for being so vague. i didn't mean to annoy anyone.

what i meant was no special abilities as in powers or overexaggerated talents, such as PoT and Yakitate Japan.

basically, i'm looking for a down-to-earth anime/manga about something that isn't based on the "supernatural"

    sry to those i've offended/annoyed

    thanks.

I don't remember having said that Wikipedia is always right. In fact, I have spotted a lot of mistakes, like saying that MPD Psycho is seinen.

The American audiences? Jajaja. I still remember how they heavily censured the Pokemon manga because its contents was too "offensive" to kids...even though it was serialized in a Kodomo magazine in Japan!

NO, for God's sake. I said so because Nana was serialized in cookie, a shoujo magazine. I don't consider the English Wikipedia a reliable source of information when it comes to these things.

I searched in the Japanese Wikipedia's manga list and I found this:

    中高生向け一般
中高生 (中- middle, 高-high) middle and high school students
    向け -intended towards
    一般 -generally
"Generally intended towards middle and high school students" (only to be absolutely sure I used BabelFish and it seems to agree with my translation (The result it gave me was "For junior high and high school students generality") so it's OK I believe).

With this I consider that there's no more reason to doubt Cookie's target audience anymore (so I believe that Nana's genre in MangaUpdates should be changed, don't you think?)

Oh, if you want manga too, then put Yotsuba&! at the top of my recommended list. And everyone else's.

Me Teru no Kimochi already ended. It's a terrible manga with a terrible ending.
