I have absolutely no idea what in the world happened in chapter 228 and parts of 229. How can they just incorporate vampires into this!? And why are the vampires the ANTI-GANTZ teams? It makes little to nothing sense.

If you had read the manga you would know that they didnt just suddenly incorporate vampires into the story.
Vampires are everyday people (males only by the looks of it) who have been infected by nanomachines.
They first appear in gantz chapter 158, where at the end of the mission they attack the survivors,Izumi fights them first but he is called back to the room, then their hands morph guns and they kill the black americans and then they attacked the old man, he manages to survive.
I cant remember what chapter it is, but the whole chapter is based around Akira, Kurono's brother, he has what looks like exzema on his back and randomly finds himself ending up at a building somwhere, where he is shown pictures of the vampires enemys (the gantzers). And it turns out that Akira himself has been turned into a vampire.
Other things happen with the vampires, but i cant be asked to type up everything, you should really read the manga properly.

Read the manga again.
It's true that they didn't just suddenly incorporate vampires into the story, but I don't like the idea. It's too imaginative. I like the aliens idea (Even if I prefer an human enemy), but vampires...?? I don't know. This was being discussed in another thread.

It does seem a bit out of place, but the Vampires do fit in with this SciFi setting, since they did not become vampires due to a bite to the neck or a pact with devils or anything. It does bother me because it seems a bit cliche to have vampires, be it the traditional vampire, or some crazy science vampire.
Yes, at the beginning i really didnt like the whole vampire thing, i actually hate vampires and the story behind them, hellsing being the odd one out, i actually like this story, but the whole vampire thing has been done before.
But im growing to like the vampires in gantz, they bring some sort of origanality to the story of vampires, for example the canines are not the sharp teeth, and the rash on the back may have something more to do with a transformation. But i say wait and see.

I agree totally. While I'm usually pretty sick of the whole vampire thing (way to go, Blade), I think Gantz is doing it well enough that I don't really mind all that much. Although when they did originally appear, I was a bit like: "Okay, what the hell?"Originally Posted by tetnubis
I also like how one of them looks like Cedric Bixler, the lead singer for The Mars Volta:
(not a very good picture, but you get the idea)

By putting vampires into the series I think they are just cluttering it up and getting away from the life and death struggle the gantzer vs the aliens.......
There better be something major at the end with the vampires though.
All things serve the beam

Well I don't think They are normal Vampires I mean look at the oni Boss They defeated he was very powerful it took them a long time to beat him. With gantz there's always a twist everything is not what it seems and gantz won't tell you that either. I think they are more like alien vampires rather than just normal vampires. But one thing is strange they never showed up as a mission target.
Or perhaps Gantz was designed to fight the vampires and so built the aliens to train his soldiers.
