If Gantz is either one of the things you mentioned it could be, I wonder what the man inside means/symbolizes, while on the topic of religion. Perhaps another metaphor... it is man's choice what becomes of man, or something like that. (Religion is not my strong point, sorry.)

There is something of a redemption aspect as well; if you lead a sinful life, perhaps you can make up for it by defeating these potentially dangerous invaders?

Again, thank you for the meaningful post. =)
You're welcome; I'm glad you enjoyed it!

As to the man inside, my best idea is a literal "deus ex machina"...a God from the machine. He probably knows the truth behind Gantz...He might be the personality we see on Gantz's screen, he might not be; I'm not certain yet...

As to the redemption thing, it's quite possible...though I'm not sure if you can simply say those picked by Gantz are "sinful". Surely by the Christian definition of "sinful" they all are, but then everyone is "sinful" and it stops making sense. I'm not sure exactly how Gantz picks his people; the "sinful" theory can apply to most of them but I'm still not sure about Hoi-Hoi...some of the other minor characters don't quite fit as well.

I'm tired now, though...I'll try to think more on this tomorrow.

Te black men were in Japan for a vacation. They even said something on the lines of being there and getting killed.

Also the arguement on GANTZ being a metaphor for religion, it's a possible reason but I think its more than that since the government is somehow also involved...

Really interesting. You did a good research, and even if this is just an hypothesis, you have very good basis. Thanks for sharing.

The message on the screen I definitely believe to be some sort of deus ex machina.

You make some interesting points. And I'll be super impressed if you're right. However, not to sound like a hater but I can't member the last time someone guessed correctly as to the general plot direction.

And mind you we've had the discussion of GANTZ as a protector before but still are left questioning his selection methodologies he implores and his seemingly perverted/sadastic wants. We've seen innocent people and innocent monsters slaughtered as well as self-serving individuals glorified. I wouldn't hedge my bets on the gantz being some sort of protecting diety.

I'm going to have to reread the series soon though-- It's been a long ass time since I've read the earlier chapters. Then I'll add something more thoughtful than "uh maybe."

I can see the Gantz as a religion thing. that Makes sense. But what if the actuall meaning is even more than that? So there was this star trek episode where the crew meet apollo, and they discover that the greek "gods" were actually aliens that had been rejected by humanity. Now I can't really say that that is the premise that we have going on here but what if The Gantz is actually an intergalactic kinda peacekeeper/hunter that uses the indiginous people of the planet as Bait/Ammunition to attack these creatures that comprise the mission. something like that would want to keep its presense under wraps. so the best way to do it is to get people, People who are fixing to die is the best choice because their lives are over any way, and then use them to kill/capture your target.

Only then it gets noticed... first in Germany and then later in Japan, and People start forming religions around it. And then Gantz could be a commentary on morality and whether the people who get this second chance really deserve it. and whether it's okay to just kill things, just because. I think that the cooler.... is probably mostly right, I just think that the commentary is not just on Christianity, but religion and morality as a whole, and how people deal with the unknown.

The religion shit u told about may be true , and it would be a great meaning for all this...but gantz got many bugs , and commit some atrocities too ... like sending kurono alone in a mission , or the Tae Hunt ....if the meaning of this ball is really celestial , why would it b e against Kurono , the stronger member? why would it be wasting time slaying Tae?

there are errors in your theory..but , i still love it.

You know, I'm 99% certain this is completely unrelated, but...Germany? Japan? See the connection?

    Here's a hint: Axis Powers.

If we hear anything about Italy I'll know something's odd...

That's possible, but Germany is also frequently used as a general symbol of anything militaristic.
