I recommend Battle Royale and Berserk. I haven't read the Elfen Lied or Hellsing manga but if they are anything like their anime-counterpart then you should enjoy them. Gosh, I've read so many dark mangas, but I can't think of anything else to recommend at the moment.. Oh yeah, check out Ichi The Killer. Very dark and I enjoyed reading it.

BR sucks, and its not a masterpiece, i cant believe a vet like yourself cooler can consider it good. ITS EPISODIC, in case you dont know what that means, the manga reveals the substance of the character right before they die, that doesnt precisely give you any relation or development on the characters, its the kind of crap that naruto has with all those fillers, unlike Gantz, in which you see the characters develop each mission
or in Berserk when that little girl tries to follow Gatts after he s fought the pikin/wannabefairy girl he tells her he s surrounded by darkness and the moment is damn cool as hell cuz its as if you know of the darkness that haunts him as if you ve been thru with him during all those moments.
so why does BR suck so much, cuz it has no character development, heck the movie had more of it in the 2 hours, and this manga has.... i dont know how many volumes and rarely has any.

edit: i wanted to coment on MPD psycho its has pretty good art, but the plot becomes boring and repetitive after a while, i got too bored and didnt finish it, dont know if it picks up later on

wtf are you on about...have you read the book?
read the orignal before you comment on the manga or the movie.
The manga is created to give a more indepth view on the characters so this is why it comes out as 'EPISODIC', and the movie focuses on the main characters ordeals.
None the less, the art in the manga only compliments the creative writing from the book. Brings it all to life.

word, they made the manga because the book was in depth only to a certain point, the manga went in depth with ALL the characters. jeez. on a almost different note, anyone has the last volume of BR? lol

My team is scanlating the last volume; it isn't finished yet.

Oh, and BR has excellent character develeopment...come up with a legitimate anti-BR argument or shut the fuck up.

I've recently started reading Death Note and it reminds me of Gantz when (spoiler)

Light (i prefered Raito) loses his memory. I don't know yet if he gets it back but is obvious he will.
