Thread: Otaku, what does it mean?

Lighten up man, when I say people like us, some of you start getting defensive, like you're scared of being caught an otaku, lol.

Uh no. Not really. I'm just answering his question. And it's a fact, Otaku is used as extremely derogatory in Japan.

if you've ever seen mallrats (if you havent, you should), its like a Brodie Bruce, but with anime.

The word otaku is derived from an honorific term for another's house or family (??, otaku) that is also used as an honorific second-person pronoun (roughly equivalent to using the word 'thou' in modern English to address someone)

basically, taku is house and o adds the honorific form so otaku is honorific form. aka, someone who stays in the house. aka ALL OF YOU.

i don't remember the name to describe it, but there is a social phenomenon in japan where young men (generally) stay at their house..... all day long...
there are even people who didn't go out of their bedroom for years (no, i'm not exagerating >.>)

and worse, their parents continue to feed them and clean their bedroom and etc., so there really don't need to go out

Otaku's are the japanese comic book nerds, like Comic Book guy from Simpsons, just with wider eyes.

Its funny, at Animenation they have a shirt that says "Completely Confident in my sexual power", the size is XXXL.
