It is an extremely formal way of saying "you" ([edit: board doesn't like kanji much, apparently]). That sounds like a proper label to me.

If you are to accept the modern derogatory slang use in Japan, why do you also not accept its less-derisive English-speaking-world counterpart?

otaku didn't use to have a bad connotation. back in the 70s the word was created to classify the fans who would mass idol stuff in their rooms, posters, autographs, photos, plushies, etc. the original classification is
1) an Otaku is a person who is a fan
2) an Otaku is generally introverted and is generally not an active fan (meaning not going to meet the idol in person,)
3) an Otaku will horde keepsakes (souveniers, memerobilia) of their idol
4) an Otaku acknowledges other Otaku, but they are generally very hostile toward other Otaku, (this one was ruled out three years later due to issues that arose)

"Otaku" became a derogative term after a serial killer who killed 6 young school girls in early 90s japan was found to have child pornography, murder photos, and articles of the children's clothing in his apartment. the media labeled him an otaku. since then Otaku has lost a lot of it's derogatory meaning, but it is still considered to be an insulting compliment. if you can understand that.

Agreed. Gantz, in itself, is too complex just to be characterized as an "engineer's" profession. The technology would have to be discovered, then the equipment would have to be invented, improved, and utalized. After reading gantz, it makes me want to go back to highschool. LOL

umm i tought i was the only one that was amazed about this, guys, after some rethinking, i have done checking this manga, i have summarized a few ideas i have and some stuff i know, and i can say that its for sure possible to do what Gantz does.

Im not talking about the alien killing, weapons or suits, im talking about bringing back people from the death, itll be a really big chatt to telly ouy the procedure, but for sure its possible, of course, not so clean as Gantz tecnology its, and not using teleporting tecnology, much more, using Cryogenic + Human Cell Cloning tecnology + Some other advances i know about.

The moment i realized that if it actualyl works, itll be a really big trouble to the whole world, think about it, that science can go so far to actually bring back people that died long time ago, of course, only if their bodies were conservated in a certain state, and using really a lot of cells...( man itll cost a fortune just to do it to one person), but the trouble itll cause with the human religions its big.

_THe big wonder i have now, its, that if im right, and its possible to reconfigurate and reannimate all the parts of the person that its on cryogenic, and itll have perfect healt, itll actually revive, will the soul be back???

im mostly thinking 2 possibilities, 1, it wont come back and itll stay in a coma , or 2, itll come back, and say a few things about the other life..

or three, itll come back and dont remember a shit, like in Gantz.

umm, using Holografic tecnology to map the human body structure and cell position and using teleporting to actually put every cel in its place and regenerates the body, its the highest of tecnology that can eb capable, but, both tecnologies are starting jsut now, in japan, they are planing to bring out the holographic tecnology fro comunicactions in 2010, and in Australia, they have finally achived to teleport a particle of mass trought space,, umm it was really a big succes, but its really hard cuz for transferung jsut one particle itll take a lot of effort, to do it with a full object itll eb really hard.



oh well, cant say more, or ill end up telling the idea im saving(the cryogenic one)...(man, it really scares me a lot, the worst part its that its possibly to do it or at least try it with the actual tecnology)

PD btw, im not an engineeer or studied sciences at all, i studied BA in marketing, so this ideas, are like an annoying to me...

Option 4: souls, if they exist, are irrelevant to the process and the person you revive (if they are indeed cellwise-identical to the original) will honestly claim to be the original despite having no actual continuity-of-consciousness with the original.

And no, it isn't currently possible. It will eventually be possible, and I predict as we get close to that point we'll see an upsurge of interest in philosophy.

i agree to all of you guys...

and really, gantz technology is vague..

but if we're goin to consider the reason why there is such a gantz tech in that manga... we can say that it's main reason is for "survival"

and looking at our technology today.. i remember reading this somewhere... that all the effort we are doing for technology in not just for discovering about new things but rather preparing the human existence in the future... the same thing.. they are all for "survival"


here's the what if...

what if the future we have is the same technology as gantz and even have the same situation (alien invaders, etc...)

i think, we will also do the same thing.. same gadgets, same way... though not exactly...


(though i hope that gantz will be not that of an "ass" like in manga...)

it just means humans sent gantz back in time to change the future. it's definately from humans, either that or some higher being that doesn't want to see the earth taken over without a fighting chance.

And maybe vampires are human slaves from the aliens in the future that want it to happen
