Gantz is a pretty graphic manga in respect to sex and violence. I personally like all the blood splattering and random body parts flying every which way. Without it, I'm not sure Gantz would have the same effect on me as it does. While reading other manga of varying taste, I notice the lack of gore and macabre detail that Gantz seems to have no problem supplying.

I'm not so sure about the sex though. Gantz has got a few hentai qualities that other non-hentai mangas don't seem to touch. The feeling of having to look over your shoulder at the door (that is, if you still live with people that will freak out at the content,) whenever semi-sex scenes appear isn't really what I want to be doing since I wasn't set out to read a hentai-sort to begin with.

So this is my question. Would Gantz have the same effect if there wasn't as much sex in it? Maybe none at all? I think it might.

All the sex in the story has no vital relation to the plot. It's all superficial cuz-im-h0rny sex. None of the scenes are unifying a relationship making me think it's grown stronger, nor do they provide a necessary link in my understanding.

Then again neither does any of the sex in mangas. But would eliminating the sex, in your opinion, make a difference?

Hmmm. Good question. It does add something. But not to the story. So i don't think it would matter if it were there or not.

It helps to tell you whether certain characters die. See Reika? Yeah, she's not dying in this arc yet. Not until she gets to sleep with Kuruno.

Kishimoto didn't sleep with anyone and she died a fantastical death. But Kei's been around a few times and he's still alive. I guess when you're the main character it doesn't really apply to you...

The authour is targetting an older male audience with Gantz, since the female nudity is plentiful but the moment we get some man-ass in there he censors the junk. Maybe it would make his male fans "uncomfortable". Aww, pwor bwabiez.

yes...that is partially true, he dreamed about it! (well in the anime, i don't remember about the manga, i kinda skimmed through the first 70 chapters because i saw it all in the anime)

There's a reason I stopped watching the anime at the second episode.

I'll just say that it wouldn't have had as strong an effect on me without the shock factor, but I still love the novelty of the plot and the novelty of Kei's personality. So I'd still read it, even without the gore. The sex I don't really care for, as I also
A.) Don't like it, if I want porn I'd get porn, I don't read manga for that.
B.) Don't want to freak out the parents, just as you noted.
C.) Detracts from the seriousness of the story.
However I'll just note that it does set the atmosphere in a way, even if there should be better methods, it at least mentally reminds you that this isn't an ordinary manga.

gantz would suck total ass without the sex scenes. i mean who reads a manga that doesnt have sex in it?!

haha, it doesnt have anything to do with the actual story, but i suppose it does tell us something about Kurono.

now about his age.....i'm pretty sure it was said somewhere that he was 15 years old, wether it was the manga or the anime.....
