If you're going to base it on that sigil, then I'd have to say Gantz is a good guy. Afterall, he does give you another chance in life...

I'll just let this message trail off so you can think about it.

If that is true then why place the bombs into their brains? Why a half an hour limit to hunt down the aliens? Isn't it obvious he's playing with their lives? It's all a sadistic game to Gantz, or show. Which ever his real plans are

But the point is, the players are already dead to begin with. They're merely given a second chance. Nothing wrong with what Gantz does to their bodies, since afterall, it's a second chance.

Yeah, and I'd hate to have even a small chance of seeing my loved ones again. That would be bad.

I think that Gantz is your typical example of an Anti-Hero. Everyone is tired of the typical righteous sailor moon or St. Tail type anime where the goodguys always win and have extremely unfair advantages over their enemies.

If you observe Gantz you'll see main characters die and clearly be evenly matched with their enemies.

From what I see, the homicidal tendencies and sheer power of these aliens is by no means just a natural evolutionary step. It was developed for the purposes of attack and invasion. Gantz has a good reason for hunting them down because they have all this power and yet live in secrecy among Earthlings. If you really think about it these aliens likely have the power to infiltrate Earth's government.

Therefore an independent vehicle of defense is needed, thus you have Gantz. With Gantz you have the perfect soldiers, people who have already experienced death through Gantz they will learn to become fearless highly adaptive killing machines capable of dealing with the aliens... Not many humans would want to fight things as horrible as this. So the perfect recruitment strategy is to take people who have already died, give them a second chance at life and in exchange you must pay-back with military service. Furthermore, with Gantz theres less of a chance a disguised alien could compromise it. In the case of a multinational armed force whats there to stop a disguised alien from infiltrating it and causing earth's armies to surrender?

It's even part time and you're given access to great weapons and so on. I'd say thats a pretty decent alternative to permanent death and loss of identity.

It is an ideal training progam, you take dead people who died for whatever reason throw them into cirumstances they've never been into and force them to adapt. Those who don't, die. But it really doesn't matter becuase they're already dead. It's natural selection and Gantz is the embodiment of just how cold life can be at it's basic instinctual level. The people who from total obscurity without any pre-set military traditional training suddenly are forced to adapt to the extreme circumstances set forth by Gantz are the ideal solution to this alien threat. Like Kurono remembering to put on the suit and katou-Chan taking a leadership role. All of these adaptations that occur so suddenly are key aspects of an organized army.

So if you think about it Gantz is the most efficient killing machine created, such to the point where the soldiers have nothing to lose and will not be missed because they're already dead.

Shimakaze I pretty much agree with everything you've said, especially the bit about aliens being subversive beings that represent too much of a thread to humans especially as they are hiding among them.

I know what you are trying tos ay about Gantz, but the word you are looking for isn't "AntiHero".

A main character in a dramatic or narrative work who is characterized by a lack of traditional heroic qualities, such as idealism or courage.
Shinji from Neon Genesis Evangelion is an AntiHero. He lacks courage and self-esteem.

Gantz is a maniac with a single driving objective. He isn't any type of hero and isn't in the limelight near enough to be considered the protagonist.
Dear cousin choppitychop89, you were a good relative, though I hardly knew ye.

But it's kinda scary don't you think? That the old lady right next to you on the bus could have an inner killer in her?

Gantz brings it out in all of us, and those who can't do it are dead, simple as that.

A very fearful thought indeed. You have to wonder what sorts of qualities that kind of a person has to possess.
