While I really like the whole Gantz storyline and concept, I think the weapons are kinda lame. Don't get me wrong, the weapons designs are pretty cool, but the weapon stats are starting to really bug me. for starters, The damage delay is getting pretty random. The delay worked well when it was constant (in the beginning of the manga, it seemed the lag was about 2 seconds), however now it seems to deal damage anywhere from 5 seconds after being fired to instantly. The Buddha mission had a bunch of examples of this, Kie would shoot at the big statue like 5 times, there would be a small delay, and than their would be 5 synchronized explosions. One could argue this is shown just to fit a comics 2 frame cause and effect sequence, however this occurs in the anime too. Additionally, the mangaka seems to alternate between the guns doing damage to where they were pointed when the triggers were pulled, and the guns doing damage to where they were aimed after the trigger lag had passed (I know I articulated that rather poorlybut to get the gist of it, compare how the guns worked in the Buddha mission with how they worked in Kei's solo rooftop fight)
Another qualm is the difference between the pistol like weapons, and the carbine/rifle like weapons. is it just me, or do they do equal damage at an equal rate of fire? the only difference seems to be X-ray attachment verses a digital scope.
The sword also bugs me, a telescoping blade seems too powerful. I think the only reason they where added were since katou was cheated out of a sword fight (Katou picks up one of the statues swords, prepares for what should be awesome combat, gets his arm cut off before he can do anything cool. major disappointment.)
The bike. yeah its not really a weapon per se, however it completely alters the initial impression gantz gives us about the hunts. up till then, hunts were supposed to be a competition between hunters for points. you score the killing blow, you get the points. no assists. yet the bike requires two people, hence cooperation. this changes everything. than again the bikes are essentially useless (the mission areas are 1km by 1km, right?).
There's also that invisibility device. Why aren't people using these in missions anymore? even if there's a time/power limit, that only allows partial use, it still helps avoid stupid things like getting ambushed or surprised by an enemy.
Finally the sender. first of all, why is anybody using anything besides this weapon. so far its pretty much a one hit kill (excluding transforming monsters, then its a two hit kill...) I know that the audience prefers monsters exploding to monsters being sent, but why waste time tiring yourself out fighting a monster with a weapon that only wounds him, when one well aimed shot gets ride of it all together. It even one hit kills bosses. Perhaps the Snare portion of the sender gun may have limited ammunition (1 shot per mission maybe?) However this has not been mentioned in the manga
