Except animals aren't sentient. There's a difference between eating a cow and eating a human.

It seems that they regard us as animals because we are not as technologically capable as they are. Actually, I think it may be more than that. I think food and other resources are the reasons they actually came to Earth. These aliens seem to be the ultimate evolution in an exclusively urban culture (kind of like Tokyo).

They're culture is just so similar to human culture. The clothes they wear and the buildings, restaurants, and modes of transportation. That city ship has advertisements and billboards, they keep pets, they have a sense of aesthetic. Convergent evolution didn't just shape physiologically like humans but memetically like humans as well.

But I think that also means that they need to keep seeking new food sources because their population won't stop growing. They outgrew their own home world and now hop from planet to planet. Like locusts (inb4 Independence Day). Their culture has made them the most ecologically inefficient form of life there can be. But their technology has kept them from extinction.

They aren't human. And I think they've conditioned themselves to see humans as equivalent to animals despite our sentience. Not necessarily out of some inherent sociopathy but because their urban culture could not survive any other way. To them, we are sentient animals, a more intelligent source of food or type of pet. It seems that we don't even taste that good to them, but as long as they can bring themselves to harvest us as resources then they can continue to exist as they do now.

Their brutality is kind of like the cruelty our own meat industry practices. We know that mammals like pigs are capable of feeling pain and emotions like humans do. But there is a demand for the most amount of meat in the shortest amount of time. So we convince ourselves to not relate to the meat, which makes practices like playing kickball with still living piglets okay, which reinforces the emotional distance and makes it easier to slaughter animal as if they weren't living to begin with.

I think those giant aliens are probably what Oku thinks we may become.

I'm not a vegetarian, by the way. But I don't support the practices of the meat industry either.

On another note, I'm really hoping that the team finds something out from the Gantz room. It would be wishing for too much if they could use the ball to resurrect Izumi, Golgo, and anyone else who might be useful now. It looks like Sakurai is going to die via Bolivian Army. It'd be cool or rather "original" if he somehow survives though.

It looks like that boy is either trying to rape Tae or pull a Shinji.

Interesting comments Red Dingo. I'm on board with the idea that they should be made an example of in a way that the Navi ousted the humans in Avatar. Demolish them and send a message that their kind of hostility and elitism is not welcome and will be met swift justice.

It seems like the Gantz organization was gearing up for this invasion judging by the huge sphere production warehouse. It's high time those resources come into play. Otherwise there won't be anyone left to use the suits.

And yeah. Tae better watch her ass. lol

If that was the case, they could just farm the planets they visit. They have apparently conquered dozens so far. They do this for entertainment, obviously. Even if you killed off all the humans, you'd still have billions of chickens, cows, and whatnot around, and plenty of room for them to roam about and breed at.

If the animals could talk to us in an intelligent manner, and build cities, I find it unlikely we'd eat them. And we could in fact relate to the animals if they were humanoid and acted exactly as we did.

Note that some people are amused to see the humans roaming about, while others just want to stomp them into the ground for fun, or eat them and complain about the taste.

Untrue. Humans are rather selective and as long as we don't see them as our equals, we'd be willing to kill them. If you look at all forms of genocide, the killers usually degrade their victims as creatures less than human and are therefore a-okay to kill. So as long as people are willing to pay for their flesh, even if they are intelligent and capable of building cities, we'd hunt them. We'd probably justify ourselves by eliminating their education and destroying all forms of their culture first, but they definitely won't have meaningful lives or be used as livestock if there is a demand for their meat.

Of course, there will be people against it, but if their meat is abundant or their moral/philosophical/religious view points don't match with ours, the people against would be in the minority and would most likely be ignored like vegetarians.

... Sorry if I just killed your faith in humanity.

    Good Times

While all we're seeing right now is humans being eaten and kept as pets, there is certainly a bigger reason why the aliens are attacking Earth and signs point to simply putting humans in their place, getting food and resources out of it is just an added bonus.
