Reika's decision

I just started Gantz and got caught up to speed, I was wondering if anyone hated Reika's decision to bring back Kei instead of the "old man". I am sure at first it looks like she is being VERY selfish to some until the apocalypse where an extra Kei to protect the world is a GOOD thing. I was just wondering if anyone thought she was being selfish and still thought so once the apocalypse started. I mean it's not like the second one isn't going to die by the end of the manga anyways, because I would be to happy for him to live and no manga writer ever wants to make me happy. LOL.

I don't like to see Kurono as the saviour of the world...too many mangas out there with the main character saving the world from some shit.

In terms of strenght and usefulness, her decision was good. But it's not like she decided like that with that thought in mind.
It's certainly understandable why she did. After all, she loves Kei. And let's not forget that she even helped Tae when she was targeted. That must've been hard.

I don't like her decision to bring back Kei, simply because he was not dead. And wishing her own Kei into existince is creepy and wrong in my opinion.
And when Oku downplayed it, I got disappointed. How can the original be like "Perfect, now we can have both. Good luck buddy". Even in the gantz world, seeing another you should have a different effect. It's not the same as seeing a second Kei (the girl).

But, why not put your questions in the 'gantz manga discussion' thread next time? With the amount of people posting these days, it's better than making an own thread for everything that only get's a few posts.

But doesn't by default the main character always become the savior of the world in manga, I am having a hard time remembering one where some nobody saves the day. I dont know about you but i wish i had a clone who could take the other path I didn't choose for whatever reason. I mean face it he does care for her but because of the bet and then just settling he stuck with Taye. Will do.

you read too much shonen manga perhaps?

-in many mangas there is no global threat present, only local (or even personal) conflicts
-some mangas don't have a constant main character, or have a collective protagonist instead
-in some mangas the protagonist is an anti-hero, or just doesn't care about saving teh world from anything
-some mangas have a tragic ending
-some mangas have a bittersweet ending, that can't be described as 'saving the day'
etc.

Well, all I have to say to that is, of course the main character will be the saviour, otherwise he wouldn't be the main character. The story follow the most important character, i.e. the one who saves the world. What sort of manga or story completely glosses over the saviour entirely for some filler with other characters?

That's just how story telling works.

Personally I thought the idea of bringing the old man back was cruel enough in itself. He's an aging old guy who clearly is content with death, he has nothing to live for as his wife is already dead, and dies with a smile on his face saving another member of the team. He's not a teenager like the others who have a life to go on with if they survive the whole thing. Why force him to come back and fight more now that the poor old bastard is finally at peace?

Death Note is a shonen manga which the main character is an anti-hero. Just goes to show how stories aren't all about saving the world, hehe.

And although seems very twisted, the whole idea of having two Kuronos in the main story could prove interesting and make good developments int he story int he near future. I think it was a good move from Oku.

Sorry for being nitpicky, but for some reason I took offense to this. Mainly because the main reason I love this manga is the evolution of Kei. Through this manga, there have been several instances where Kei demonstrates his love for Tae. I don't see it as "settling" or "second best". It's quite endearing actually.
