What?! Michael Bay movies are all about tits, explosions, and unnecessarily crazy CGI!
... ah fuck ... I'd prefer to see Takashi Miike direct (and spend money on) a Gantz movie

Michael Bay is an IDIOT! He would completely ruin Gantz with stupid jokes and witty remarks after every line.
I think Peter Jackson or the guy who directed Sin City could do a decent job.

Takashi Miike could pull something decent, maybe. But Gantz would need some nice visuals too... Of course most stories should be taken into account by their contents rather than graphics, but in Gantz case, nice graphics would be only fitting.
Michael Bay is sort of... "no". In any case, maybe this thread here: Do you think GANTZ could work as a live action movie? would be a better place to discuss the issue of a Gantz movie. I know sometimes (most of the times, maybe) it's a bother to use the "search" function to check if there's already a thread with a topic related to what you intended to post, but it's, in reality, a very useful tool, since that way you can avoid, for instance, posting repetitive things, and come to know what people have thought on the subject before, not to mention it might lead to reviving a pertinent topic that has gone unused by one reason or another.

Michael Bay is one of the worst directors in Hollywood. He takes everything an poorly Americanizes it and removes everything offensive. Can you imagine Gantz without any nudity or gore?

Or any plot, or good actors, or good lines, or good CGI or good directing .... The list goes on. And Transformers was simply ... dreadful! He touches Gantz and I hope we fans all sue his ass for ruining Gantz, for everybody.

Not talking about Michael Bay...
Takashi Miike would make Gantz an amazing film, but he would add some screwy and not-faithful touches, Ichi the Killer was amazing (and I think Asano Tadanobu was amazing as Kakihara even though he looked nothing like him from the manga) but Miike just put the R-trigger on the ending of that film... :/ |

Miike is brilliant but somewhat unrestrained, if he will work on a project that is originally someone else's work, he's good at throwing a spanner into the original idea and changing some major things. He once said in an interview, 'If the audience know the story, it's no fun to see it again if they know how it will end'. I think the ending to Dead or Alive was the least predictable and most insane ending in movie history.

Yeah, Miike would be a fun choice - then ending of Ichi The Killer was utter genius, the reveal that you'd been watching an art film in exploitation clothing all along.
I think he's also got a sensibility of cartoonish violence that would work with Gantz. If it is depicted with too much realism, it would be too gruelling I think. |
