nishi killed a cat. i would never identify myself with this bastard. i dont think so many people do either.
i'd rather identify myself with the sharpshooter (way to less screentime...most people wouldnt even know whom i'm talking about)
My new signature to celebrate my 1000th post!!! (My waifu Yuno)
I'd like to understand why he's so twisted. The fact that he knows more about Gantz, but doesn't reveal all his information is mysterious.
etufo: HS is most likely going to die sooner or later. Who will kill the cool character killer?
Popo: well, obviously going by that logic, HS will have to kill himself...
Cool and mysterious, no. He's a nonconfrontational kid with Antisocial personality disorder and a fascination for death. So no, I don't identify with him.

@ Inaba's ghost:
First of all, if this thread came as a response to the novel and the announcement of a Nishi and Izumi prequel, then maybe you're ignoring that the fictional word of Gantz didn't begin with the Onion Alien mission. It's not about Nishi solely, it's about the previous team, which to me is reason enough by itself to look forward to it.
Now, there's also the matter of Gantz coming to an end. Oku might gave us some answers, but then again, he might leave a lot of questions in the open. Let us remember what's Nishi's main role, it's not being an antagonist, it's being the one who has more information about Gantz than every other character. Izumi himself only remembered tidbits of his previous experience, as stated by himself.
The novel might show us, other than character depth and a different Izumi from the one we've known, more interesting Gantz facts. How Nishi came to know what he knows, what was his personality back then, etc, and the same goes to Izumi, how he came to lead, his motives for leaving the game the first time around.
Lastly, think to yourself, is this thread material? I don't think so. There were Nishi threads in the past... in any case, this could very well be posted in the 303 thread, along with the news of the novel.
It would be more interesting to have an Izumi backstory and see when at 15 he met a 13 year old Nishi in the Jeans Alien hunt in Shinjuku. That would be interesting to me.
Yeah, I do identify with him on some things. Not on his "death-fetishism" really, but on his cynical worldview about how the others are all hypocrites. In a situation like this other people aren't your allies, they're your rivals in a competition for survival.
I especially like his extended monologues in the anime (probably the best thing about the anime version) where he draws attention to the public's obsession with death. I you see someone about to be killed your first thought isn't about how you should save them, you really think "I might get to see someone die today." Although a lot of people don't want to believe or try to deny it (and thus become hypocrites), everyone really knows it's true when they consider things like the popularity of horror movies or, heck, even the popularity of GANTZ itself. It really is a "fascination that defies all logic."
I think if you go back and read over the early chapters of the series where all of the characters just seem so helpless and pathetic, you can see that a lot of people would like Nishi simply because he was the only one of the characters who wasn't talking and acting like an idiot and who wasn't completely lost in their terrifying situation (obviously because it was nothing new to him).
My fave Nishi bit from the anime is the character assassinations he does to everyone before the Tanaka alien hunt = cold, ruthless but every word was golden.
