From now on your the god of godmodding. Not that it wasn't a nice read or well deserved, but a thing like that would never fly in a normal rpg.
If you're used to them like I am it's sometimes strange to read what happens here. Someone writing a lot of stuff, writing how others react, introducing npc's and controlling them.
There is too little interaction. The gm writes something, the player writes something and so on. It's more like reacting to things and not interacting with each other.
But the fact that you play this over the net is probably to blame for this. Others can't react instantly, so the way you do it is the only way to do it (without it taking forever).
But sometimes I wish this were a normal rpg. I bet it would be even better then.


Well let's see what dharma makes of this. This is probably not how he wanted things to go.

Maybe not. But then again, this is not how I had wanted things to go, either. I had a plan in mind of how to get Naomi her revenge, how she would find her violators, how she would be perceived by her classmates, her relationship to her fellow gantzers and so on. And from dharma's first off mission post on, that plan was obsolete, which, in my opinion, was a pity. It's not that I don't appreciate dharma putting this much effort and creativity into making things harder for her.

Rather, I am trying to find the middle between my initial plan, the things I definitely want Naomi to do and to be, and the situation he's putting her in. The center between him being the GM, and thus having the power to change the gameworld, and me being Naomi's creator, her player and therefore the one 'owning' her and controling her development.

And that's where, I think, there's a very thin line between god-modding and 'normal' RPing, because sometimes, the rules that would usually apply are making things harder and, more importantly, less enjoyable. I mean, if you have an idea, something that would give your character development a huge boost and that you really want to happen, but getting there depends on the success of one certain action, then you do it. I'm nobody who would really god-mod, like killing off another player without (his/her agreement), murdering hordes and hordes of superior aliens or suddenly having weapons or abilities never heard off. Cause all of that would be only annoying. And sometimes, being weak and vulnerable can be very exciting and satisfying. I like to write that kind of things, too. So much, in fact, that once, my girlfriend complained about one of my characters, because she always had to take care of her (yeah, most of my characters are women...). ^^

I'm willing to see where dharma's heading. And I'm almost certain that Naomi will be seen and it's all gonna end in a catastrophe.
But hey, I'm happy with that, as long as three terms are fulfilled: Naomi can kill Makoto, Naomi gets to kill her three violators and she has a chance to meet up with Tomoe, possibly for that (something Sid and I had in mind).
Yet, dharma: You might have to tell me what you 'expect' her to do, next time around, so that there are no misunderstandings. Unless, of course, you want Naomi to kill each and every guy in her way.

Well if Dharma is fine with everything there's really no problem.
Besides, the normal way might not suit online rpg'ing. If you end up in a situation like Naomi and you make her say something to Makoto or grab his balls, if you waited for dharmas reaction before going on with the "scene", this rpg would take forever.
Short actions to make more room interaction just don't work well online. And it not like things can't be edited should dharma want that.

The other thing about where a player wants to take a character and the gm with his plotline has always been there in rpg's.
As a gm you have a certain outline where you want to take an adventure/mission. But you have to be flexible as well. Because players might not want to follow the local bartender's lead to head north, and want to go south.
A gm has to gently lead and control the action while giving the players the freedom to do as they please.
Characterwise a compromise is normal. I mean how often do things really turn out for your character as you had planned in the beginning. Besides a talk with the gm can always help things. If he knows where you want to take the character and you know what his plans are, it can only help the game. Naomi is heading in a intersting direction as things are though (once your original plan for Naomi is no longer an option, how about letting us know what it was).

In this case it's not like it isn't interesting. Dharma seemed to want a little bloodshed in the off-mission anyways, with Sean and his pal at work, letting a npc gropeTomoe (you really shoulnd't anger her), the whole Naomi deal. Having Sean run into Tomoe was a bit too much for me, but she didn't notice him anyways.
Let's see how things play out. Naomi has a couple of bodies on her hands, and Tomoe is going for the vamps. And who knows if Dharma hasn't more in store for Shin and Andre.

I'm lost for words. Haha... look, i know that some of you guys had plans for your characters but lets face it, plans don't always go the way you want it to go which is what i'm emphasizing here. You can try to control your life as much as possible but once in a while life throws a spanner your way. Ouch! I have a rough idea where most of you guys want to go with your characters it's just that i'm not throwing you guys the straight road. THIS IS GANTZ!

As for Palp's reply, well i can let it pass considering that the kids were no match for Naomi (anyway i've expected it happen). It's going to be a pain to work on what happens next, since that she DID KILL PEOPLE ON THE ROOF! Just to warn you, expect it to come bite you back in the butt... hehe. But you know, there's always other options, you didn't have to kill... hurt them abit maybe? or perhaps lying?... but if you want to be blood thirsty, who am i to stop you it's your character after all.

Oh, the plan might not fully apply anymore, but some parts of it are still gonna work, I think. So, I'm afraid that I'm keeping my mouth shut for now, Feanor.

I did expect that already. I kinda already know how to, partially, avoid consequences, though. ^^

Personally I'm loving the way me and Dharma are being Light and L with my posts, hes throwing stuff at me to catch Shin out and I'm trying to not make him (as in Shin) stumble, its getting quite fun!

Also I agree with Palp with quote marks for dialogue, italics for thinking and normal text for all else.
I'd also say to use bold for either different languages or flashbacks. If your character is shouting, use caps instead of bold.

EDIT - I just noticed the new hunt grabbed Takezo at 12.03 on the same day we're doing the Off-mission thread. Will the meet be at midday and will we get to do any training at all? How will the training and stat-boosting work?

bwahaha... you don't have time to train. It's on to the next mission! This off mission was just a teaser of things to come

This off mission had a lot of violence already. I know this is Gantz and violence is a big factor, not to mention the change for a character after being in a hunt and learning about the power of the equipment. But it seemed like everybody was using violence to solve situations, even when they had other options.
So the stripper lie was a welcome change of pace. You probably did it because you didn't know if the 3 were human or not and you didn't want to face 3 vamps, but still.
Always going straight for the violence is the easy and fast way considering npc don't really pose a thread (a more evil gm wouldn't let you push them around that easily...punish them dharma *gg*), so I'm glad you didn't.

Career: Student. Also works part time washing dishes at a sushi bar.

Inventory: school uniform (with a shoe missing), flattened pack of cigarettes, lighter (his mother's keepsake)

Appearance: Average build. Has a dyed blond buzz cut. Appears in the Gantz room in his school uniform with a shoe missing and with his hands tied behind his back. His clothes smell heavily of smoke and has traces of blood on it. Hair seems to be a little singed.

Strength: He's person who thinks first before acting and has used this skill to become street smart. Having practically lived by himself the past 3 years since his father disappeared on him, he had learned to survive in the streets of Tokyo and has become an adapt in street fighting. He learns by picking up on things through his keen sense of observation.

Weakness: Though he's a person who 'thinks before he leaps', his emotions does get the best of him particularly his anger. He's a loner who has a problem with authority and doesn't trust anyone but his two and only best friends; Ryuchin and Hanagata.

Personality: A loner. Doesn't mix with anyone except his 2 best friends. Considered a delinquent at school because of his tough attitude which has made him many enemies. Though he hates his father who had abandoned him 3 years, he yearns for the affections of his dead mother and remembers her by carrying her lighter around.

Background: 5 years ago before his mother passed away, Takezo's life as 11 year old was perfect. He had a loving family, had many friends and was doing very well at school. Of course that was all in the past, his life as he knew changed when his mother died in a car accident. His father, unable to let go of the past became depressed which led him to become an alcoholic, by then they were living on welfare. Things at school weren't any better for Takezo. A few of his 'friends' found out about his problems at home and started making fun of him. One day he just snapped and gave in to his anger and put a boy into the hospital. He was almost thrown out of school but was convinced by his father to keep him back as he was always a bright student. The school retracted their initial decision and Takezo was given a 6 month suspension from school.

It was during those six months that he met Ryuchin and Hanagata who were both suspended from their own schools. They quickly became his best friends and were always getting in trouble. By the time their suspensions were over they decided to form their own little gang which quickly gained the reputation of being the worst delinquents in schools. What was surprising about Takezo was even though he had skipped most everyday of his schooling semester he was doing alright in his studies. The rumour in school was that he was cheating in exams but no one dared to confront him. Many were scared of them because of their reputation including teachers. Their reputation also brought them unwanted attention from other gangs, some to recruit them while many other wanted to challenge them. The last gang tried who tried to recruit them got them gave them an ultimatum; "Join or else..." This of course pissed Takezo, who then beat three of their members. Unfortunately Takezo and his friends, the rival gang wasn’t giving empty threats.

Cause of Death: He was on his way home from visiting Hanagata from the hospital who lying there in a coma. It has been 3 days since hanagata was ambushed on the way home from work. The police of course wrote it off as another gang fight. As he walked home pissed at the police, he was considering what his next move was? All he could come out with was revenge. It was almost 12 when he reached home. He sensed something was wrong when all of a sudden he felt something hard hitting the back of his head. The pain didn't register in his head until he saw the blood dripping down his face. There were 7 of them. "Good," he thought... "don't have to look for them. They'll pay for what they did to Hanagata."

He fought of 3 of them till he finally sucumbed to the pain and exhaustion. They tied his hand to his back and carried him in to his own house where the continued beating him up. They offered him the chance for him to join them one last time. Takezo was barely conscious but knew he would never join them, not after what they did to Hanagata. Not satisfied with his answer, the rival gang decided to punish him. They started a fire in the house and left hime there to die. Weak from the beating, Takezo could barely move. As the fire grew, all he could think about was his other friend Ryuchin. He hoped that they wouldn't get to his other friend.

He died from the smoke inhalation before the fire consumed his lifeless body.
