Thread: Gantz RPG Mission 04 OOC

Maybe it's because I will be fighting gantzers as a vampire, but I think the lock-on feature might be a bit overpowered.
Use it on great distances with the x rifle and the enemy can't hide anymore. Unless the alien is immun to it, or has an ability that nullifies it (like in the last mission), it's pretty much screwed.
And even on short distances Kei showed us how effective it is. Simply lock on while you point the gun at the enemy (who'd naturally just stand there and not move until you actually shoot like Izumi did).

Again, it's just that I'm a bit concernced for my life. I don't want to give it up that easily.


About the invisibility. Don't a lot of people in the room already know about it? I'm not sure, but even some of the first timers in the last mission used it, right.
Don't tell me, Tomoe doesn't know about it. If so, it's very impressive that you didn't make her found out about it until now.

You're right about the lock-on. Part of the fun is the shots missing or hitting your teammates. Invisibility also seems like it could be easily abused so I was wondering if it was going to be something earned through experience or determined through dice rolls.

Tomoe knows about the invisibility but I haven't used it in missions much. Partly because I think it's funny of someone as shy as Tomoe tends to forget there's an invisibility option.

Lock-on is definitely an issue but nothing a few rolls of the dice shouldn't balance out. At the very least I hope our characters earn XP for each successful tag. I thought Oku did a fine job of balancing out Stealth in the manga. It seemed only the most foolish of vamp grunts weren't wearing their frequency contacts at all times and most of the aliens deemed vulnerable were dangerous enough to hold their own regardless. Again, a dice roll or special penalty (sort of a 'poison' effect where the mode continuously saps off a certain amount of the suit's power) could be implemented to prevent abuse until the team realizes the consequences of falling within the line of sight of an outsider during a mission.

I think invisibility isn't much of an issue. It's been around for a while and so far it worked without putting restrictions on it. But maybe that's also because it isn't used by everyone all the time.

And even the lock on feature wouldn't be that big a deal, if you simply played against aliens. You can easily give them abilities to render it useless. And even without those, they can take a lot of damage.
A vamp pretty much dies with the first hit.

But ultimately it's up to dharma. It's his baby and he probably has a vision where to take all this and how to handle it.
I'm okay with whatever he comes up with.

It just means that my social life is so sparse I have had lots of time for RPing.

A Gantz manga with Tomoe would be like Gantz crossed with Genshiken. Nerdy obsessive part of the time cold-blooded killer the rest of the time.

Now I'm worried. Even main characters can die in Gantz.

They do indeed. But Naomi or Dino would probably bring you back.
The time between dying and being resurrected better be short though. Real people tend to move on and get out of it. I mean, I doubt that whoever played Koi would come back to play after being out for such a long time.
So let's hope it'll still be a while for you and that it happens in a mission where Naomi/Dino get to 100 points.

I don't know about the social life part, but the time is definitely there. In the past I checked the site once a day and read all the new posts in the sections that interest me, and maybe responded. That took maybe 30 minutes, depending on which day of the week it was. These days I check it more often because of the rpg. Even if you take into account that you have to come up with and write a response...in my opinion that's time I can easily waste every day (even with working, other hobbies, friends & stuff).

If other people can't than they must be very busy, or my social life really is sparse compared to theirs. I can live with the latter, though.

Q: True Blood?
There's a reason that vamp's need blood. I'm also taking a wild swing to say that the nanobot in the vamps need blood but not from it's hosts but i wouldn't call them parasites that leech off their hosts. In order to grant their host that extra speed and strength, nanobots need power from blood cells (or what ever rejuvenating properties that our blood posseses) but leeching off it's host would eventually kill the host and the machines itself which is not efficient. But once the nanobots have less/ no energy left the host would obviously feel weak, have headaches, etc... much like a junkie going into withdrawal.

Unfortunately in this RP i'm not allowing animal blood to be substituted for the real deal.

Q: Infection: Myth vs Machine!
We all know that a bite from a vampire will probably convert a person. Which i will allow the Vamps to do in the RP. While it was never shown how Koruno's brother got infected... i'm going to say through fluid transmition.

In the Gantz scenario i would say that the victim has to in a weakened state where his body isn't able to fight back against the invading nanobot. In order to balance out Vampire conversion in the game, all vamp would need to drain alot of blood out from their victim before the person starts to change. Once the victim has lost sizeable amount of blood which weakens the body, only then would the nanobots be able to take over the body. So no instant vamps. Once a victim is bitten, changes would not take place instantly too. It'll probably take a few days before the person is fully converted.

Q: Daylight savings
Everyone knows too that Vamps fear the sun (and UV lamps too). It's also seen as one of their weakness in the Gantz manga too. Their only protection against this was to take specially made pills that were so expensive. In the RP, these Pills will be limited too and its effects will have a limited duration. Which i'm going to set at 4 hours. Once the time runs out, vamps have to either take a new pill or avoid sun light.

Q: Healing
In order to keep the their host alive as long a possible, the nanobots will repair any injuries (actually it speeds up the bodies healing process). Yes, Vamps will heal but the process is slow and drinking blood will speed up the process. Blood which is the essence that powers the nanobots in the Vampires, will boost the nanobots healing.

For those who think that it'll be a life saver, don't bank on that. While reattaching lost limbs is possible (think of it as in reattaching limbs in the manga; 'Claymore'). The nanobot do not regenerate lost limbs. Once a limb has been blown away, where a sizable chunk of the limb is gone... i would say reattachment would be impossible too.

Q: Weapons
It's seen that weapons can be generated or pulled out from a vamps body. While that's a new sci-fi twist in the vampire myth, i would say its through the means of nanobots. Weapons are first deconstructed by the nanobots and placed into the host's body. This would mean that the host would mean that the body takes on additional weight.

So far we have seen in the manga that vamps can pull out pistols and swords only and not assault rifles or any other large caliber weapons which means there maybe a restriction on how much they can carry. The restriction for the RP will remain too. Vamps can only carry small light weapons in their bodies which is their standard pistol and sword. To balance out the game, their guns will have no ammo restriction.

Q: Where's my cool shades
We don't know why some vamps prefer to carry sunglasses or contacts in the manga, so i'm leaving this one up to interpretation. Carry which ever one you think you like. It's standard issue for vamps when hunting Gantzers. Don't lose them or you'll be dead just like your pills.

Q: Master and the apprentice. (Just like a Sith or Jedi)
This is something new that i would like to do in which i think might help in building up the Vampire lore. There will be a master and apprentice for all vamps, just like Host Samurai and his side kick; Kill bill. There will always be one master and an apprentice. The master would be in charge of training his apprentice in the ways of the vampire.

Other questions:
Q: "At what point are the lock-on feature of the guns?"
They are unlocked once a player reaches the veteran rank for that particular weapon. Players still do need to aim the weapon though but will not need to do a damage roll if the Lock-on is successful. The target would take FULL damage of the weapon hence no roll needed.

Q: Invisibility
There was on unlocking restriction in the previous games so we will be following that. The only one i would say is this: Unless someone teaches the newbies how to work the invisibility on the controller, NO newbies can use that function! A simple restriction that's all i can say.

How about transferring palp into the room yourself, dharma? He's done off-mission anyways, but seems too busy to write at the moment. If you move him yourself using the magic hat, he won't have to spend his next reply on something so trivial, but instead can use it in the room.
Plus, it'll give the story in the room a push where things are kinda done too, it seems. Andre and his brother can continue their conversation anyways and you could open the ball and give the mission.

Just a suggestion.

I second it. All I've got is the usual filler lined up because writing a flash back feels extremely premature at this point.

I'm really sorry for not participating yet. The inconvenient thing about holidays is that your friends are taking you out for parties whenever they can and your parents tend to give you extra work, like... renovating the house or... bringing a garden of several hundred square feet in order. Which especially then hits the spot when getting a new PC or laptop has those two as a condition.
So much about today's excuses.
