Is everything exactly the same with the Dark Horse release of Gantz, or are pages with nudity and sex censored or eliminated entirely? Does the translation stick well to the original?

I don't think dark horse censors their releases, though i can't say for gantz (cause i don't have their release). Some of their stuff like gunsmith cats has nudity and sex in it so it's pretty unlikely Gantz would be censored.
Other than the age of the teenagers having sex or getting naked, of course.
I was noticing the cover of issue 4 has Kishimoto lying naked on the floor, and was thinking, can they sell something with a naked underage girl on the cover in America?
But I'm thinking they sell the volumes, not the individual chapters.
I wonder if any of the dialogue was changed. Different translators always came out with different things.

They would not be able to, no. And seeing as Kishimoto is full frontal so much in those issues, they'd likely specifically state her age as over 18 at some point to get around it, that's what usually happens.Quote:

I have the first two, thus far they've kept the chapter covers like the one with Kishimoto and showing a hairy bush for "The girl and the Ball" or whatever it was called. The translation's a little wonky like "That's te theory anyways" becoming "That's the way the cookie crumbles" but besides a couple line changes its been ok. I love Gantz anyways so its not a big deal to me but I can definately see it being a turnoff in some translation issues, but Berserk has some freaky shit on par or worse then Gantz and they don't censor it...

DH are pretty good when it comes to releasing titles from other country's. They try and keep it as close to the original as possible.
As mentioned already, there is slight translation issues. But the art is all there.
Not to mention DH willingly puts out notice that mangas like Gantz and Berzerk are for AO, and wrap them, so having some (okay, a lot in parts of both of these examples) of nudity isn't a big deal seeing as unless you buy it, you shouldn't be seeing anything.
There's no image censoring in the Dark Horse version. Everything's exactly as it was in the Japanese manga (I know because I own both English and Japanese versions of some volumes).Quote:

I think the translation's done pretty well. It doesn't shy away from using language at times (including F-words), but it doesn't go totally overboard either as I think some scanlations do. The translation might seem more literal than the scans (which often take too many liberties, IMO) but it still manages to flow nicely and not sound weird. When you're talking about things like "That's the theory anyways" versus "That's the way the cookie crumbles," it's a figure of speech anyway and either manages to get the point across.
And no, there's nothing in the book saying the ages of the characters participating sex. Although, we haven't gotten to the Buddha mission yet so technically no one's actually had sex yet; just some attempted rape and explicit nudity.
The sex is always kinda unexplicit, and more played for laughs than anything else. And with there being so much less bottomless nudity in later chapters I think it will remain uncensored.Quote:
