This is so weird... we've just had the opening chapter for the catastrophe and there has been only 19 replies?
No theories such as the thing happening first with Nishi is because he's wearing the suit? Or whether Kurono and Sakurai are prepared or just being dumb? Or whether the catastrophe will be less heavy in this initial move and they'll manage to get by even suitless? Huh? HUH?

OMFG... I'll second the cliff-hanger comment... What was that blast? Grenade? Flashbang? RPG? The Swat? Aliens? Somebody farted? Anyway, that scene is very clearly a "perversion" of the chibi assault on the class. Kurono walks into the scene of a massacre to find tae cowering in a corner... well it's the scene of a massacre, but it's not an alien that did the killing... BAHAHAHAHA man that would awesome.

I don't think the police has anything to do with that shit. First I thought maybe, but then I took a second look at the image: no way the police would blow all the windows like that. But what sort of force that is, and why is it targetting Nishi, I don't know.
I'm unsure whether it's Gantz reaction to the Catastrophe or the Catastrophe itself - meaning either aliens or whatever.
