Is pretty clear that kei and katou share different belief system when it comes to gantz wise, although they influence each other mutually some way or the other imho. However, i feel that it would be an interesting read if katou and kei somehow turn against each other. It might happen sooner rather than later, given that katou would always reason with the alien. Who knows, somewhere down the line. Katou would reason with an alien and found the actual reason that they r here. Kei being kei would be intent on killing the alien(the alien taking away something from him during the arc). I feel that would make an interesting read. But i ain't no oku =|

Since Kurono's a Katou fanboy himself (okay, I concede that they're each other's fanboy), Kurono won't oppose to Katou leading. Afterall, he admited that Katou's Tokyo team former leader; and when Katou's been dead, there're many times he took actions based on what he thought Katou would have done.

That said, I have a feeling in the upcoming event, leadership won't be an issue. Something big is coming (well, I've resisted peaking at spoilers but "Catastrophe" had crossed my eyes at some point), the team won't have time to sit down and "hey, let appoint a leader again". Katou will probably continue finding ways to minimize casualties, while Kurono wil probably continue pulling solo stunts/miracles.

Of course, I ain't no Oku either.

Well, Katou is amazing but as you said earlier Kurono's growth makes the story more interesting (for the first arc). Kurono transformed from an asshole to a decent man ( you could say that, right).

Any way, Katou's character is necessary to bring inspiration to other (in this case to "never give up")

Katous only big mission before his death was the Buddha arc, in which he was awesome.

After his revival he did the Nuri arc, in which he maybe was not awesome in the Kurono or Izumi way, but he still managed to go arround saving people (even if for example anzu died later) and he killed Nuri.
Ofc with those strong aliens he didn't do that alone, but could kurono do that alone right after the buddha Mission?
I seriously doubt it.
Katou was the man baiting Nuri, and, even if without anzu, HS and the sniper team he had not been able to do it, was the man shooting nuri.

Whom except Katou would have had the courga to bait Nuri?

I don't think HS would've done such a thing, he also attacked from a hideout.

So what do we have, in Katous first mission he didn't manage to shoot any aliens, but stil he were the dude saving kurono.
In the second mission he was the dude showing the others how to kill the yamazukis and forming a team.
In the third Mission he defeated the undefeatable boss, as he did in the Nuri arc too.

I think you can't say he sucks.

First off, I would like to reiterate what i said in my first post; i don't hate katou.

However, if you are going to puff up katou by deflating Kurono/Kaze/Izumi, just to put things into perspective, right after the buddha arc, Kurono faced off with the chibi aliens alone. He managed to kill all but one. Also, in the dino arc, he faced off with quite a few dinosaurs alone (A T-rex, too), while everyone else sat back and thought "he's had it". WRT to the oni boss, He looked still looked mighty invincible when Izumi, and then Kurono walked up to him alone.
Comparing likes with likes, sure Katou had the courage to be bait, but he only became bait once they came up with a winning strategy, and knew he'd have covering fire. Kaze, on the other hand, did not know Nuri's weakness, knew everyone else had lost hope, and still walked in alone, with absolutely no guarantee he'd be able to kill Nuri.
Again, comparing likes with likes, everyone goes "Katou killed the boss, he's awesome." Who killed the giant buddha who just shrugged off gunshots? katou did some cool stuff, but I don't see him turning himself into a human bullet and blowing the brains of a boss from the inside.
As for 1000 arms, don't forget Sei half killed the first form and two of its more lethal weapons i.e. the acid pot and the regenerative talisman. The reason why Katou had a hard time with the first and second forms was not because the boss was all that tough, but because he walked in with just the capture gun, and his "Thou Shalt not Kill" attitude.
I stand by what I said, while putting gantzer skills and leadership aptitude together Katou pars with Kurono, speaking strictly in terms of skills, Kurono/HS/Kaze/Izumi come out on top.

Katou is as awesome as Kei is as awesome as Izumi. Get it? What im saying is that these characters existed as foils to one another (well mostly Kei). When we didnt have Katou we have Izumi to serve as an antithesis to Kei, and vice versa with Katou when we didnt have Izumi.. We have these three characters practically with same potential who're at different ends on the spectrum of amazingness, one who is soft, one who is in middle, one who is god damn hardcore.

Shin- Katou had trouble with the first 1000 form not cause of his kill-no-evil attitude, he didnt know Sei already solved 1000's god mode cheat code with her life and figured Y-gun was his best chance... otherwise if he knew im sure he wouldve fucked that thing with everything he got.. I mean 1K just slaughthered his entire team there's no way anyone's gonna hold back, especially not anyone with katou's intelligence. Ya dig?

^I read the arc again, I apologize about the "thou shalt not kill" comment. Yeah, based on what Sei told him (Guns not effective, and 1000 arms weapons bypass the gantz defense), he went off to get a capture gun, as well as a sword (i guess he figured its own weapons would be more effective on it).
But, well, Ironically, cuz of sei, and presumably Togo, he would have been much better off with a regular gun. In fact, if he had pulverised 1000 arms from a distance, that would probably that killed the second form problem in the egg. But, well, that's a what if. We all know you don't go anywhere with these.

P/S: Katou was so out of it when Kishimoto died, he didn't even notice when Kei went down. His first reaction when Sei snapped him back to attention was "Is Kei dead?" (At least in my sub XD). I am unsure as to whether he actually knew about anything more than what Sei told him later (i.e. he might not know about the regen hax). But, oh well, I guess that's yet another thing you could slide under the Oku files, inconsistencies and what not.

Hey, I just realized the tags change XDD topic owner should clarify which kei he means though, me think he goes for both

If he doesn't, how can we explain the blushing when Kurono ask him why Katou revived him then?
