Would Gantz be as good in a western setting?
Right now I'm in the multiple gantz balls camp, so the the possibility of a non-Japanese Gantz is there, along with obvious questions. Namely, what kind of aliens would there be? I started thinking about this with the last mission because of all of the aliens that were taking on religious motifs. There's always been a Japanese program to the various alien's style, but here it seems elevated somehow. If the dog creatures had the motifs of catholic priests or other ministers, how would that change perceptions? It's obvious that, as with the comic itself, part of the appeal to myself is the unfamiliar nature of them (You could point to the Japanese fans of the series, but just because were all fans doesn't mean we like it for the same reason).
So I'm curious, if Gantz were set in North America or Europe, what kind of aliens do you think the author would have come up with? Knights? Cowboys? If you're from one of those regions, would an acid-spewing cowboy do anything but make you giggle?
If Gantz were in NA or Europe you'd have something like Claymore.
I like to die with the songs I love stuck in my head. I hope to make the most of these hollow bones we become.
I raise a toast to the the souls that sang all along. I've been gathering friends to just to make some sounds,
before the ship goes down, I've been making amends by making the rounds before the whole world ends

Currently I'm working on a little artpiece, where the Gantzers fight against some "special" aliens. Underlings are Tony Montana Aliens, the 100 point boss is Chuck Norris. I'm still thinking about putting the A-Team as midterm bosses, but I don't know yet. It's all a bit complicated, cause I'm still workin' with ps than cinema 4d. But I guess I can show that in two weeks.
Edit: How about letting them fight against Spartans?
I hope if this manga comes ever to europe there won't be any "nazi" alien; that would be a big disappointment. I hate mangas like Hellsing, they're so dumb and frustrating. Though there are some parallels to the order of the black sun, I hope Oku not picked that one up.
First when I saw the big Gantz ball, I thought about the black Cube of Mekka... (Like black cubes around the world generating suicide bombers, sorry not funny...)
Do you have new pictures carv?

US would have to be some sort of native tribal alien or the stereotypical area 51 alien.
Europe would have some sort of dragon, living ghostlike knight armor, or the statues of Catholic saints.
I'm Italian and i think about this staff for the gantz-rpg i wanna to play with my friends.
The first idea however have nothing to do with europe or italy.
I think about comics super heroes based aliens.
Like the Fantastic Four or Batman&Robin alien version. However all these heroes must to be "gantzered" so must to appear grotesque, strange and a little funny like the onion or tanaka alien.
Than (cuz in my city there's an important roman arena) i think about alien gladiators.
The statues that persist in european city is another idea for huge and strange aliens (angels, horseman, devils etc there's only spoilt for choice).
Another idea could be animals and creatures from fairytales and fables like foxes, cats, crows and so on...

With the exception that Claymore has been boring me since chapter 1. :P

Then again, if they're aliens in the interstellar way, there's no reason they couldn't just use ideas from all over (melting pot aliens?). The giant knight creatures and dinosaurs certainly were foreign to japan..
I too am working on something, but it'd definitely take more than two weeks. (you don't play ut do you?)

Monsters are pretty easy to find, just look back into some of the pagan religions. Greek Mythology has so many crazy ass monsters, ie: Minotaurs. Then youve got things like Werewolves, Dragons, the Kraken.
And for bosses I could imagine a lot of Aztec/Mayan type god figures. Quetzalcoatl would make a pretty interesting boss. And dont forget the Norse Gods.
Don't forget that we Europeans also have monsters like vampires, werewolves, zombies, gargoyles, lurkers, ghouls and such. Nordic mythology has Grendel and his mother, Oda could use the legend about Dracula, also Loch Ness, in UK, there are suspected to be big cats. There are multiple choices for Europe.
Fight or die!!!!!!
Maybe the American aliens could be based on things like urban legends. Jersey Devil aliens, Bigfoot aliens or dogs that cough up fingers at people. Big-headed aliens giving anal probes would be interesting. Especially for Inaba.
I like this thread. America can also have a bunch of steroid induced baseball players, and WASPs who actually turn into giant wasps. Or like that guy from Point break, have all the aliens wear masks of famous and infamous presidents.
